Because you're not actually imposing your Determination on them. They're letting you do Snowgrave because they like fucking with Noelle's head and want to kill Berdly, and don't put the leash on in time to stop you from raping Noelle. After the doe rape Kris starts to really tighten their grip on you - not only do they start actively disobeying you, they also take away your dialogue choices entirely when Susie asks what happened.

Even without X-Slash, Kris is STILL holding back super hard for the Knight fight. He does more than double the damage of Susie and Ralsei combined against Tenna if you play the Sword Route and he learns that Tenna fucked up and let slip that he was working with Kris.
