Abuelo was banned because, in spite of being in the format for over a year with no problems before Foundations was released, instead of acknowledging that OMNISCIENCE was the problem and because JotC hates White cards and White people, it decided to ban Abuelo as the scapegoat card rather than omniscience which was the real problem.

JotC does hate white.
>Crusade
>Cleanse
>Jihad
Middling cards banned from legacy because JotC hates white people. Because somehow destroy all "black creatures," "White creatures get +1/+1," and "White creatures get +2/+1 as long as the chosen player controls a nontoken permanent of the chosen color" is somehow racist. They also banned Felidar even though it was Saheeli that was the problem. Felidar is a middling card without Saheeli.

Moreover, four mana cost resurrection has been in standard several times before before. Replenish which was not banned from its standard is still stronger than Abuelo. A few years ago there was Redress Fate which could be played for four if drawn during the turn and Resurgent Belief which let you do the same thing but with plot for 2 mana. Black still has Zombify, a four mana cost resurrection for creatures. Abuelo has been in the format for more than a year before Foundations.

It wasn't until after foundations released omniscience that the omniscience deck was even a thing. They're using White as a scapegoat when Omniscience was the problem. Abuelo was only ran to get omniscience out of the graveyard. Then omniscience was the card that did everything for the deck. Fact of the matter is that JotC hates white. They hate white people. Whenever they ban a white card, usually something else is the problem.

It makes sense really.
>ever have a bannable card
And they never seem to ban any bannable cards any more.

The more I think about it... The more it seems like Premodern is the way to go. Even the power level difference between the """top""" decks and the weaker viable decks running the best options for their playstyle is fairly small. It's not like any standard after 2003 when it's 80% affinity and then 30% some best deck everyone has to build around or lose. It's not like Legacy or Modern where the power level of the cards has been continually crept up by the incredibly bad post-2003 design.
>No Mirrodin, TS, Ravnica power creep proto-FIRE nonsense
>No pokemon cards (planeswalkers) LARPing as MTG
>No coomander slop
>No UB slop
>No FIRE
>Strongest decks are fairly cheap if you use modern printing though aesthetically this is inferior
>Even cheaper if you just proxy or use Cockatrice/Xmage
>Large variety of viable decks
