it's not ever "over", it just gets exponentially harder and harder the older you get. in your early 20s you have so much potential mostly because society will give you the benefit of being young and "stupid". you can try something and have it totally fail and it's fine. you can totally fuck up your life and then bounce back before you're 30 and no one cares. you can date and fuck hot women with no money. once you pass over 30 though you no longer get this grace from the world around you. you're a grown-up now so if you have some stupid ass dream no one is going to rally around you like they did when you were 20 unless you've already proven yourself. the days of "potential" are over, you are either already making it or you're a loser. you are supposed to be the older man that helps the young guys now and when you roll in with grey in your beard trying to compete with them instead you're a loser. you also naturally get a much more cynical attitude about what is going to work and what is going to fail which takes aways your spark from within. this is not even getting into unavoidable issues with aging like health and needing to take care of the old people in your family that for a young person would be taking care of them.

43. I'm 20 cool and int and been trying to move around perks but I get wrecked as soon as he starts the missile launching shit. I can play the fight perfectly until then barely taking a hit but the missles I can't do fucking anything about. I've tried even just constantly running and they still fucking destroy me. I have no idea what to do. As soon as the second phase hits and the missiles launch i die right on que. I think where I really fucked up was not having enough reflex for the dodge ability and not having enough armor. Now I either turn down the difficulty (gay) or reload a save before the end chapter and grind (gay and boring).
