Well, I was raised in Christianity and had my head filled with it from a young age like many westerners, and so in some sense I think of it as something that was given to me and is mine to make use of. It isn't a separate culture, it's my culture, and having realized that it's wrong and awful in many ways, from my perspective, I'd like to fix it or improve on it. But maybe I'm also operating somewhat under the delusion that fixing religion might fix people, when in fact what happens most often is exactly what I'm setting out to do: everyone fixes religion to suit their own preferences either consciously or more often subconsciously, so there isn't much point in trying to change religion rather than something more practical. But maybe not.
