There are many M2 ports and they keep making them because people keep buying them. A lot of these shmup devs, like CAVE, stopped making games because arcades are no longer a viable source of revenue for them, and people did not buy the console ports.
And it doesn't stop at M2 ports. If you want to talk about emulation there are over 8,000 games on fightcade, which have lobbies and matchmaking that properly displays region and connectivity, and net code that modern ports unfortunately *can't* match. When you put it all together you can see how stupid it is and why the retro scene has become synonymous with collecting and buying overpriced fomo hardware, not playing. Retro doesn't mean a player of old games any more.
