Keep in mind the best way to build up to a pull up is to start with bar exercises (low bar pullups, hanging leg raises, v raises, kipping pullups, actual pullups, progressions further on like muscle ups). Still takes time, especially if overweight/sedentary.
I don't, as far as I know, have any problems, I was just a lazy fuck as a kid and discovered how fun athletics are as an adult.
