Denji is Shigger's pawn. Nothing more. He is not the focus, just a temporary former MC and a subversion. He is not the MC of Part 2's story, that's Asa.

And what is that something, POOwer monkey? It's him turning into Pochita and erasing Death by eating her, or him getting turned into a weapon and being used by Asa for erasure. He himself cannot do shit, only Pochita and Asa can.
Additionally to the movie theatre scene foreshadowing that Denji's not the protagonist of this story, we also have the precognitive dream. The character with the precognitive dream is the one who's the real MC, and in Part 2 that's Asa and Asa alone.
