Do longpins just suck?
Traps and the basic thrown pins seem better.

>tone down some of the "competitive" features
>try to make the new player experience better(short tutorial, make unlocking new weapons easier, maybe nerf sniper a bit)
>give players the feeling that the game isn't abandoned and that they are working on it(constant small updates, balance changes, etc), making the game feel "alive" would go a long way in keeping people invested

"slipping out of reality" is unironically real, and it doesn't just happen in the woods. You ever look at a big city on google maps and see those huge sprawling neighborhoods? All procedurally generated. Sometimes the procedural generation algorithm fucks up so it has to lure some chump into it, kind of like in minecraft when you load an unloaded chunk. Some guy on /x/ posted this:
>driving home from SeaTac Airport one day after coming back from a business trip
>usually take the 405, GPS wants me to use the I5 for whatever reason
>whatever, just do it
>puts me on the 522, then does a random left turn at Lake City
>suddenly realized how weird these directions were, wtf
>GPS has me do 4 sequential left turns in some random ass neighborhood, figured it's just trying to turn me around back to the highway
>the road I end up on looks eerily devoid of life for 5:30 pm, the houses look well kept, but there's no cars in driveways, lights on, etc.
>suddenly start feeling a weird pressure behind my eyes and ears, and my latent survival instincts start screaming "this isn't real"
>drive the fuck out of there, just drive straight for like 5 minutes until things look normal again

I think it's safe to say they lack an intelligent soul, and how unbothered they are by persistent and grating annoyances such as loud streets, loud music, and smoke alarm low battery chirps is just another point of evidence for that. It further indicates they are truly not "present", as in they lack some kind of mental function that allows them to process the world around them the same way we do. You can see that as well if you've ever looked them directly in the eyes -- it's kind of hard to explain, but you can just tell there's nothing going on in their mind, no curiosity or intrigue about the affairs of others or the world they live in. I always wonder about what events of evolution or divine intervention could lead to this kind of disparity, and what purpose it serves
