having more choices in story and playstyle is usually a bad thing, because it'll make you suffer from indecision paralysis

>if i choose A there may be a chance i've chosen the worse path, because the developers accidentally made B or C more fun
>while playing through A i will constantly look for any signs that it may be a shit path, and constantly on the brink of resetting back and choosing B or C
>if i do end up choosing B or C, my immersion has already been broken because i'm not interacting with the game in the fashion i should be
in this regard, linear railroaded games are superior
