I would say that the old internet died around the time that boomer stated to use it in mass, espeically around the time face book got really popular for the boomers.

I dont know if there is an exact moment, but there were major mortal blows to the old internet.
I would say the first major blow to the internet was
>Facebook opening to non college students
While you might be able to argue that MySpace is a more prominent one, i would disagree because it was still very much a p2p network, it was not very easily searchable and navigable, it also required half a decent knowledge of HTML to make it look good. Facebook opening up was a step to bringing normies into the social sphere

>The Death of Limewire and the bay(og)
The crippling of torrent networks was a major blow as well because it scared off a lot of people from a major aspect of the net sharing files, movies, books ect ect ect. Sure its still out there but its not the same.

>Mobile devices
The internet in your pocket was possibly the biggest major blow to the old internet, gone was the idea of being at home or business related if you hade a laptop now everyone was connected with a device the size of a pocket bible

>The rise of Tumbler and reddit
This was another major moment brought on by the last, it allowed normies to network and create very small tightknit groups of like minded people, the problem was, this created bubbles and the idea of chronically online people who view the world through a VERY fucked up lens of warped reality.

>The shattering of tumbler and 2016
When tumbler crashed, people scattered and fled to places like twitter and Reddit specifically which more or less turned into what tumbler was, echo chambers of view points and think. The 2016 election was the most "online" elections and the last time there was ever any sense of "The old internet" before people knew it was all fake, memes and not "real" people, now people think the internet is real life
