Not just objects having physics I mean spontaneous NPC interactions too. Slopfield and Fallout dropped the ball but NPCs in Oblivion and Skyrim had their own daily schedules. In Oblivion, low morality NPCs could even break into people's homes at night to rob them, or beggars could pick-pocket civilians and get killed by guards if they get caught.

People meme and make fun of Oblivion for downgrading radiant NPC AI but even in its downgraded iteration it still mogs modern games. Slop like Cyberpunk gets praised now because the subhuman cattle got gaslit by kurwa dev live streams and a cartoon but that game on launch didn't even have NPCs responding to getting shot or the police car chases. And now devs like Obsidian don't even bother to have killable NPCs let alone something else. We're regressing.
