>dev shared his personal information on github
>publicly asked for donations on Patreon and Kofi
>a leaked chat shows he bought a 1.2 million dollars house with part of Mare money
>he modified the code to get access to people's info in the name of "moderation", using the same method of the infamous playerscope plugin
>most of Mare roleplayers are sexual deviants who shout about torture chambers and BSDM parties in the chat and ask for codes in public
>people made 1:1 ports of stuff from the online shop, making SE lose a ton of money
It was only a matter of time, really.

No, I don't think it's really like that. They were definitely part of the new overarching plot they drafted, but I got the impression they showed them earlier than they would have liked to try and retain as many players as possible using the nostalgia factor. Calyx was literally dealt with in 1 patch, all for the sake of showing him make a summoning from a concept, a typical Amaurotine/Ascian inheritance, so that now you and your WoL know for certain that Ascians are involved once again. And now that he can't go back to Alexandria anymore, the WoL will probably meet him in a new shard to where he transferred his memories, together with those "Winterer" dudes he mentioned, which are 100% gonna be more sundered Ascians who went full Fandaniel after the Unsudered's deaths.

Let's just hope they will change writer and localization lead for 8.0 and use these Ascians well. Kate already made another huge mistake by making Alphinaud say the Scions will help introduce Alexandria to Eorzea's leaders - he says nothing of the sort in Japanese, and she completely contradicted the very game she is supposed to know the lore of.

You can tell Hiroi wrote this shit, because he did the same thing with Zero tipping her hat. That dude can't write, and the sooner CB3 realizes that, the sooner we will get some decent writing again (maybe). I will never understand how a random minor writer whose quests were mid at best got handed the supervision of an entire expansion. Don't Japanese devs know anything about taking things gradually? How were they expecting someone so inexperienced and clearly bad at writing long compelling storylines to create a decent MSQ?

This. Good gameplay and maps help a lot, sure, but if your main character looks like a Pepsi commercial, the plot is abysmal, and the music forgettable at best, it's not going to be a good experience.
