Attrition wars are often like that. The enemy collapses slowly and then all at once. Losing two million men and really extraordinary amounts of Western and Soviet-aurplus materiel and not killing nearly as many enemy troops/machines, and also losing territory, is not what it looks like to win a war of attrition.
We should speak plainly though. You don't actually think Ukraine or America are winning. You consider the total destruction of Ukrainian society (because that is how the Russians wage war, the doctrine isn't to claim territory first and then mop up but to completely destroy the ability of the enemy to wage war and then claim the territory) to be an acceptable loss if it marginally harms Russia. This is a reasonable position if you are a European who loves America or an American imperialist. It may not be a reasonable position for the Ukrainians.
