if you had more than 100IQ you would have realized shotguns in stalker only really excel against trash tier mutants like dogs, fleshes and pigs and everything else is best dealt with smgs or full auto pistols with hollowpoints, fmj assault rifle rounds - or explosives. the second that clicked for me I instantly cut off more than 10 kilos from any of my mid to late game loadouts, for shotgun ammo is heavier than your mother and is also nearly useless against armored stalkers

Consider this: as you start the game you should have enough money to get the stendo mags and the leather jacket upgrade that decreases bleed chance and that is more than enough to get past the swamps
yes I know about getting an MP5 converted but that's besides my point, which is all of the alternatives to the Makarov are liquid shit, while the Makarov is (almost) genuinely good out of the box
the alternatives being the double barrel (lol and lmao even) or the AK which you can't even get ammo for until you clear the swamps anyway. I really like how the AK is a huge noob filter as upgrading it is a surefire way of fucking yourself over since not only you can't find ammo for it for most of the swamps, but upgrading it is so expensive you won't be able to afford anything else
