As in, the criteria that someone finds attractive differ from person to person? Then I agree with that point. In that case, I have no idea what you want to say with the rest of your post.
If we already agree that, why would we agree that there's a giant struggle to become the most attractive of the group? You just need to strive to be the most attractive you can be. The 20+ makeup queen can be less attractive to some than the 40+ trad wife, after all. Sexual attractiveness doesn't turn into a "never ending rat-race" because of diminishing returns.
Also, sex seems pretty much like food and water to me. I am fine with being a 30 year old virgin and the neolithic hunter gatherer can be unsatisfied with "enough" food unless he has for a full stomach from three daily meals and some in store for later dates.
