Archie is an abomination.

It started off as a lame comic designed for toddlers so they beg their parents to buy Sonic games, but soon became infested with awful original characters, an atrocious fanfictiony plot, and an insane diaper wearing audience. The comics are a disgusting mockery of everything Sonic stands for. And the fanbase is filled with the most whiny and toxic cunts imaginable. I'm so glad Archie is dead and gone.

It's a separate game that I put over 20 hours into. The Gens remaster packaged with it is kind of crap and not worth it. But overall it's much more polished than Gens ever was. More reliably functioning mechanics that don't suddenly glitch out all the time, fun level design (even the 2D levels, they somehow recaptured the joy of the Unleashed 2D segments that they lost after that game), a really entertaining hub to fuck around in, and generally actual fun challenge levels and extra challenges in the hub. It's like they took everything good about Unleashed and Frontiers and reproduced that feel with the bad stuff stripped out.

There's kind of a post-meta and new sincerity feeling to it, newfound appreciation for the longtime fans and lore, stuff like Tailstube, Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, etc. Really I would say Mania kind of got the ball rolling but it took everyone else a bit to catch up.

But we haven't seen a lot DONE with it yet. Frontiers was something but again, clearly made on a budget. And Shadow Gens is just a Shadow lovefest, and pretty rooted in throwbacks to Gens. I think the next 3D game will be really important in setting the tone of where we are now.
