It's blatantly clear it was Wuk who was supposed to destroy Calyx's memory core, not the WoL. If you pay attention, her role and everyone else's reactions look and sound really off after she hurts her hands: some Scions aren't worried, while others, like Alphinaud, are more concerned and say she mustn't move because "she has some broken bones". She is forced to stay in bed, out of the scene, with Koana saying she is still recovering in bed. Then she suddenly appears, completely safe, as if nothing happened and the only one who reacts in some way is Sphene, and with just one measly line and some tears. Some heavy rewriting took place to shove her away and show the players she won't be in the main story anymore.
