I don't know a single thing about this game or any drama potentially surrounding it, but your screenshot makes me think that this game is a scam trying to hop on the Earthbound/Undertale/Omori train and was destined to fail from minute one. The art style used for that character is ugly (it reeks of "nu-male liberal feminist youtuber that shits on weebs/chuds/etc to be safe but ends in a sex scandal years later") and the sprites look like stock assets from RPGMaker.
