Ok, with the flowers darkners all but confirmed, as well as the existence of the tsunderecactus and Gerson's resurrection in the latest chapters, the rules for what exactly separates Darkners from Lightners seems to be looser than expected. Playing cards aren't alive the same way plants are, yet both are Darkners in a dark world. How "alive" do you have to be in order to be classified as a Lightner? Would insects, birds, canines, and other common animals be Darkners as well, or are they "alive" enough to be treated as Lightners? If its the former, would an animal remember being a Darkner after the fountain is sealed? Could any type of remains, dusty or bony, be brought back to life in a Dark World?

If you really think about it, Flowey is basically a proto-darkner. He's an object that gained the will to live and be a person, infused with determination. Kind of like how Dark Fountains are made from determination and give Darkners form.
