Which is all the more reason why its the perfect place for her to start at. She's wallowing in the misery of her circumstance because she has no other recourse. She still has to learn how to sort out her pain and how to rise above it. She has to recognize, like you say, that she has to choose to be happy, choose to appreciate what she actually does have, choose to honor but move on from her dead homeworld. That's what her story is here, she's learning how to become the heroic and kindly Kara we know and love. I don't know about you, but I for one find that to be a compelling story.
