This is the real point of the Elves. In order to be at all authentic to the historic roots of the mythology, they have to be distant and unknown, blurring the lines between nature, divine, and human. They are men, but they are not men, there is something about them that is inherently other, but also familiar because of the distance of time between their first encounter and now.
