You have to also understand that a lot of what Paul says was written from an evangelical point of view to the Gentiles. Which means that he was very often trying to correct in writing the Jewish view of things which would be later widespread and known to what is our New Testament today.
Am I saying that we should reject Paul's teachings? No, but we should take them with a grain of salt at most. This kind of interpretation is why Christianity is given the impression of cuckoldry because there's no consistency in how Paul acts and writes.
