In my opinion it's internal and comes out when aroused, although there are pressure points that will expose it too. It's located within an inconspicuous slit that's normally covered by fur and thus not normally visible. The cock itself is kind of pinkish and it's a mix between a humanoid dick and a more simplified animal-like one. Maybe the cocks vary a bit between different species, like for example canines having knots or echidnas having...four "heads".
