Has this always been a battlefield thing or are the hitboxes of obstacles kind of misleading? I can't tell you how many times I've spent shooting at a guy who is strafing behind one of those glass doors with the metal frame or a simple metal stair rail only for every shot to seemingly hit the inch wide metal pieces.

Simply put, the indie vidya industry overwhelmingly favors gamers over developers, and that's a good thing.
The fact that this developer is worried about his game flopping and jealous of Megabonk already signals that he is fucked. Even if he didn't admit any of this publicly and just thought it to himself, he'd still be sealing his doom. If you're making a game hoping to get some big bucks and a lot of fame, you are in the wrong line of business.
If you make a game you want to play and feel passionate about, and you just want to be the change you want to see in the world, that's how you actually make a mark, no matter how small, on indie vidya. There's no scenario where you lose there. And that's what a lot of indie developers already are. And guess what. Of the very successful indie games, the majority of those are precisely from those devs. But again, even if you fail, you at least made a mark, you at least put out something you wanted in the world. You at least got a small cult fanbase that occasionally passionately brings your game up. You marked lives.
The indie industry is no place for success chasers. There are too many passionate autistic devs around. Your fame hungry ways WILL be ignored.
