Man, most people couldn't even read or write in the early 1900s, women were still married off as soon as they were fertile. Arrested development is a meme and no one is deliberately stopping people from excelling, the real problem is the welfare state that discourages development alongside a consumerist economy driven by jewish fiat, those things actively encourage people to remain children mentally. It's escapism pure and simple, like the mouse utopia no one has any real issues so skills are dropped from traditional teachings and go unlearned. The "competency crisis" is just a case of "enabling children" because parents are apathetic fucks themselves, who believe completely that the system will pick up their slack.
