Cowboy Bebop wasn't the intended product that Bandai was hoping for. They gave its creator zero oversight and asked to make an anime based on fighting ships. Through lightning in a bottle events such as the musician creating music so good that the animators redrew entire scenes to compete against the quality you got something really special.
