That's the definition of CONTRIVED: Obviously planned or calculated; not spontaneous or natural; labored.

Contrived does not mean that its not believable. It means that its done for an ulterior reason rather than for the purpose of telling the story. A character drinking a Coca Cola as the camera focuses on the label may be totally believable; but its still contrived.
