You were meant to be able to do a ton of shit. Buy properties, run multiple operations, rob banks and trains, etc. etc. They just didn't do any of it because the Red Dead community is inherently different to the GTA one where they didn't spend money on shiny gold guns and gaudy outfits like Rockstar hoped. It's why the story mode is also abandoned.

It's fun but a basic F-Zero clone. The biggest issues it has is the AI being too rubberbandy and the game demanding you spam the turbos to the point where your hand will hurt after a race. If they release it as is but with multiplayer then I won't buy it, but if they add more shit to it and fix up the issues then I will.
