•Music is fantastic. Like the best I have heard in a game outside of remixes of Zun's FM synth stuff using actual instruments, and early Nobuo Uematsu compositions.
•The art style, use of color and palette, and presentation all create a cohesive unified vision that is beautiful and unique, grounded but not gritty. Genuinely a pleasure to see the game on my screen.
•The story is meh. The twist wasn't as big as everyone acted like it was, but it was still pretty solid with a decent foundation and acceptable followthrough.
•Gameplay is just 4NIAR-1 which is perfectly fine with me since I grew up playing Jar Pigs. The QTE shit is a concession to modern audiences I will accept, since it helps the game appeal to a broader audience.
It is a good game. Probably the best that has come out this year, but that isn't saying much. Is it a 10/10 GOAT? No. Does it deserve the praise and a solid 8.5/10? Absolutely. It is better than almost anything that has come out recently, and the fact it has been so successful despite the game's humble origins is fantastic. Expedition 33 succeeding as a passion project despite being an AA game created outside of the standard corporate system of today is unironically a great thing for the industry as it will encourage those with talent, vision, and drive to step away from the big corpos and bet on themselves. Meanwhile hack shit frauds will continue to squander money, resources, and time on soulless corpo slop that is destined to fail.
I mean when you compare it with the other game that /v/ has been hyping up as GOTY Expedition 33 is so far ahead that it really makes you question the sanity of people that post here.
