The base personality of people usually maintain the same base traits for most of their life but it's built upon as they grow older and times change, it's healthy and allows us to adapt to changing times.
I still play vidya and like generally the same music I used to as a kid but my tastes have grown and I have new hobbies now as well as old hobbies that I used to have but dropped.
I used to read comic books until I got bored with them and started reading books because I feel like they can draw a far deeper and intimate fictional universe. I still listen to metal and hard rock but I also listen to EDM, classical, country and blues. I used to absolutely hate writing anything and reading science/factoid books but now I like writing fanfiction sometimes and I'll sit back and listen to a random biology research paper in the background while I do work for entertainment.
My base personality from when I was 14 is still there, sure. But I've built upon it, some of my tastes of grown, some of them have changed entirely. My opinions and politics have also changed as I've matured and grown older and wiser and have encountered more things in the world. I used to be a very extreme and rigid individualist but I see the errors in such idioms and have corrected myself.
The old friend I'm talking about repeats the exact same shit she said about her favorite IPs and political parties from 16 years ago near verbatim. She acts, like physically fucking acts, as if she was still a child, up to doing intentionally quirky things around people to feel special and draw attention to herself and it's just fucking cringe watching it happen because you'd think a women her age would at least grow out of the "uuuuuuuhhhh I'm so weak and defenseless someone please pay attention to and coddle me." phase at least a little bit, especially since she now wants to LARP as a man but nope. I just wish she would have some kind of revelation and stop the nonsense. For her sake.
