>to create behavioral models and get other blacks to emulate them?
I think this is mostly a consequence of the black elite transforming from college-educated artists, politicians, and scientists who operated under interconnected political spheres to primarily artists, sports stars, and influencers. People like George Washington Carver would travel and educate poor farmers, and Booker T. Washington established a university. Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar have never significantly contributed to the advancement of black people. The modern black elite is a monolithic structure that venerates capital above all and champions stories where someone is able to "escape" the hood life. The hood will never go away unless there are structures, mostly economic, that provide a pathway to higher education, business ownership, and land ownership to black people. There aren't enough spots on the Pistons or Thunder lines up for everyone to make it out of the hood as a ball player. The Jews, Italians, and Germans were able to make it in America because they had a stake in their communities and ultimately built them.
