It's called fufu, it's a very doughy bread. Tear off a small piece then squeeze it into a firm ball in your palm, then scoop / dip it into the soup. It's spongy and pretty tasty, west african food is good.
With that said I love slopping gnarly things up with my hands. Eating like a pig is fun and I can't be convinced otherwise by some French fuck who sniffs his own farts at the dinner table
