Favre also got worse. As did Marino. There is no guarantee Mahomes will follow one trajectory or the other. What is certain is he won't have the best receiving TE of all time for much longer, and that even with him his stats have been middling for the past couple seasons. And it's not a given he will have Reid, arguably the best offensive HC in NFL history, for that much longer either.

this is it, this is the season I will finally end my life. I am 33, broke, no career, short, fat, ugly. I will never be loved by a woman, own a home, have a real job, have a family, or have anything to be proud of. nothing is enjoyable, every day is just another miserable experience trying the best I can to distract myself from my bleak reality. my football team is quite possibly the worst in the entire league, and looks to be that way for quite some time. if my fantasy team ends up being absurdly dominant for the first half of the season, I will probably stick around to see if I can win the championship. otherwise, Im done. with my luck even if that happens, they will choke during the championship game and make my decision that much easier. I dont care who wins the owl this year, and Ill never know. I feel awful for my dad who this will hit harder than anyone, but at a certain point I cant just keep suffering a pointless sad existence just so a family member doesnt have to feel bad. at least I will always have 09.

Might as well keep living though. Not only could things get better at any time from sheer luck and/or effort (finding a woman and/or good job), but also it's at least slightly possible that suicide leads to some kind of punishment or purgatory after death.
My life sucks too. I have a dead end job and I'm renting an apartment room from my brother and I honestly wish I could do drugs because they made me feel way better. But hoping and working towards improving the situation feels good. At least I think its better than being rich and depressed, because those people have less potential to increase their happiness.

It's a different game, dumbass.
>2004 – Illegal Contact Emphasis (β€œTy Law Rule”)
Defenders can’t touch WRs beyond 5 yards downfield
NFL starts actually enforcing it
Man coverage gets nerfed hard
Short routes and timing throws explode in popularity
>2006 – Low Hits on Quarterbacks
No more diving at QBs’ knees if you're on the ground
Comes after Palmer’s ACL tear
DL have to tackle higher = more time to throw
QB longevity starts improving
>2009 – Defenseless Receiver Rule
Can’t hit a receiver in the head/neck while they’re vulnerable
Mostly protects guys going over the middle
Safeties can't play enforcer anymore
Middle of the field becomes QB's playground
>2010 – Helmet-to-Helmet Hit Crackdown
Big fines and flags for headshots
Hits on WRs and QBs get nerfed
DBs pull up instead of hitting through the route
Way fewer drops from fear
>2011 – Kickoff Line Moved (30 35)
Touchbacks skyrocket
Offenses start drives at the 25 consistently
Fewer injuries, but also more consistent field position
More scoring opportunities = more QB stats
>2013 – Crown-of-the-Helmet Rule
Ball carriers can’t lower the crown in open field
Nerfs power running a bit
Teams shift even more toward passing
Ground game loses its intimidation factor
>2014 – Expanded β€œDefenseless Player” Designation
Now includes players on change of possession (e.g. QBs after INTs)
Defenders constantly second-guessing themselves
Clean big hits basically extinct
Offense has total freedom
>2018 – β€œBody Weight” Rule
Can’t land on QBs with full body weight after a sack
Clay Matthews commits legal hits still gets flagged
DL hesitate or whiff to avoid penalties
QBs get cleaner pockets and stay upright longer
>2018 – Catch Rule Simplified
No more β€œgoing to the ground” BS
Catch counts if you control it + make a football move
Fewer controversial incompletions
Higher completion % and drive consistency
>2021 – 17-Game Season
One extra game

There haven't been any major rule changes since the time Brady started playing that would have a major impact on stats. The refs just changed how often they enforce existing rules.
>1993 - they changed it so intentional grounding was no longer called if the QB was outside of the hash marks when throwing if the pass falls beyond the line of scrimmage
>1994 - many rule changes, league wanted a higher emphasis on the offensive game in general vs kicking, OL were now able to line up with one foot behind the line of scrimmage instead of needing two (modern OTs now do this most plays, gives them an easier time in pass protection matching the edge rusher). 2 Point conversions added. Spot of the ball at a missed field goal was changed from the spot on the line of scrimmage to the spot of the kick (makes kicking slightly more risky) and QBs were given transmitters in their helmets so they could hear their coaches talking from the sideline for the first time
>1995 - roughing the passer is added as a penalty, previously defenders could do whatever they wanted to the QB if they hit him while he was throwing or just after
>1995 - changed rules surrounding WRs pushed out of bounds being able to return to the field mid-play, defenders used to be able to push WRs out and the player could no longer be active for the rest of the play
>1996 - illegal contact rules introduced in 1978 are expanded upon and more strictly enforced
>2001 - roughing the passer becomes more strictly enforced with an emphasis on late hits (year of Brady's first owl)
>2002 - became illegal to hit a QB helmet to helmet after a turnover, used to be legal for a defender to walk up to a QB and hit him as hard as possible in the head if the offense had just turned the ball over

Here's another idea, what if Brady was just really really mediocre in his 20s? He only averaged 3,500 yards, whereas elite QBs like Peyton, Marino, and Mahomes averaged 4k yards in their 20s. Brady didn't get good until his 30s when they added Randy Moss.

Mahomes is competing with elite QBs like Rodgers and Peyton in his 20s, Brady's stats aren't even top 10 in that regard, so not sure why you keep inserting him into these stat debates. Wait for Mahomes to get in his 30s then we can see how he measures up with Brady.

Nice idea! Unfortunately it is wrong. As I have already shown, Brady's stats through their first 7 seasons are comparable, with Brady having the much higher peak, which is unfortunate for Mahomes since it seems impossible he will keep pace with Brady going forward. Here's another:
>Passing DVOA
Brady 2001-2007: 22.2%
Mahomes 2018-2024: 23.4%
>Number of games played with at least 1 skill player that was named an AP All-Pro for the season in which the game occurred, first 94 career starts
Peyton Manning: 93/94
Patrick Mahomes: 92/94
Tom Brady: 0/94

Here is an example of the statistical production Mahomes will have to match to keep pace. Brady from 2007-2012 AVERAGED a better season than Mahomes' very best of 2018.
>Patrick Mahomes’ single-season career-highs
DYAR - 2,031 (2018)
DVOA - 39.9% (2018)
>Tom Brady’s AVERAGE season from 2007-2012
DYAR - 2,129
DVOA - 42.3%
Let's hope Mahomes can have 5 straight 2018-style seasons (he would still be behind Brady in that stretch). LOL the gap is so big between them, these conversations are always funny.

Brady was regularly called the best QB in the league (including by John Madden) by 2004. The debate was mostly between him and Peyton Manning. Monster stats guy who chokes in the playoff with an elite offensive supporting cast vs very good stats guy with middling or lower third of the league offensive supporting cast with a better defense and better playoff performances.
How can we get a glimpse into the "feeling" of the time? Other than what I have already provided you, we can look at Madden. Madden ratings obviously don't mean much, but they offer a glimpse into the zeitgeist of the era. In other words exactly what you are referring to, how good was he "considered" not how good he actually was.
Recall here that if the title is Madden N, then it was released in the beginning of the N-1 season. So for example Madden 2005 was released in the beginning of the 2004 NFL season. With that in mind
>Madden 2005 (released in August of 2004, i.e. at the START of the 2004 regular season)
Peyton Manning - 97
Steve McNair - 96`
Tom Brady - 95
McNabb - 95
Favre - 94
>Madden 2006
Peyton Manning - 99
Daunte Culpepper - 98
Tom Brady - 97
McNabb - 97
Favre - 93
Vick - 92
>Madden 2007 (recall, this would have been published in August of 2006)
Peyton Manning - 99
Tom Brady - 98
>Madden 2008 (recall, this would have been published in August of 2007)
Tom Brady - 99
Peyton Manning - 99
Carson Palmer - 95
>Madden 2009
Tom Brady - 99
Peyton Manning - 99
What can we summise from this? Brady was considered an elite top 3 QB by the beginning of the 2004 season, and by 2005 he was considered a top 2 QB (in addition to an all-time great). What 2007 did is catapult him from all time great, to "probably the GOAT". Had he won the SB, he would have been considered the GOAT by the conclusion of the 2007 season.

I can explain it to you.
Suppose we have a given year, say 1996. Now look at the two surrounding years, 1995, 1996, 1997. Look at what the average QB stats were, and normalize it. i.e. in this case set the mean to 100, and a standard deviation to 15.
Suppose the average passer rating for those 3 years was 79.5. The raw passer ratings exist along a distribution for those 3 years. In our new era adjusted passer rating, RATE+, 79.5 is set to 100 (average for that 'era'), and a rating of 95 might be higher than 90% of QBs in those 3 years, which would translate to a RATE+ of 120.
Therefore a QB with a RATE+ of 120, had an elite passer rating higher than 90% of his contemporaries of that era. Whilst a raw passer rating of 95 doesn't tell you that much when attempting to compare players across different eras.

Yeah, I'm not writing him off at all. These QB graphs are up and down because QB stats are a lot more dependent on the team and scheme than in say Basketball. LeBron any given year for 20 years was going to give you 27/7/7 with a 27 PER etc. Despite that, QB stats being more team dependent than in superstar-driven basketball, we know that some QBs are better than others. Stats usually capture this because on average situations average out, but sometimes they don't.
Brady didn't suddenly become worse in 2013 or 2019. Likewise Mahomes (imo) hasn't become worse in 2023 and 2024. It's just that his supporting cast has diminished from best-in-the-league to below league average (with Kelce declining).

Rodgers sat on the bench for multiple seasons since Brett Farve was on the team. Had he been drafted to any other franchise he would have been good enough to start. Same applies to Ladd who was drafted to a team that was rebuilding after my Chiefs bootyblast them into oblivion. He didn't have as much competition as the Chiefs out the gate and if it wasn't for injuries he probably wouldn't have half as much targets.

Dude fucking John Elway has been called a top 5 QB of all time, and was surely considered the best QB by some during his time despite him practically never having even top 10 stats.
I just showed you several instances of Brady being called the best QB. And then followed that up with more evidence of him being a consensus top 2-4 QB (depending on the year from 2003-2006). You know how Burrow has 0 all pros, 2 pro bowls, and yet is considered universally a top 3-4 QB? So too did Brady have 1 all pro, 3 pro bowls, (and 2 SB MVPs, and 2 top 3 MVP finishes) before 2007, and was considered a top 2-4 QB (again depending on the year in that range). You can keep repeating your nonsense but it is simply wrong.

You're slimey with your words. Like a rat. A weasel. There is an important distinction between "some" and "most". Specially when the reality is closer to "all". You obviously knew this but chose to use that word anyway.
Addressing your point, there is an important distinction. Mahomes looms larger over the current NFL than any QB did in that era (and that's partly because Brady and Peyton are better than Burrow, Lamar, and Allen, i.e. it was more top-heavy then). Peyton had the monster stats, Brady had the rings and playoff performances. Brady was not universally regarded as the best QB prior to 07. He was a consensus elite QB, with a well-sized portion β€” though not majority β€” considering him the best.

Brady in his 20s is Jalen Hurts. Let's pretend Jalen went on to win 2 more rings. People would praise him for it but everyone would know the rings were a team effort and that he's not better than Allen, Burrow, Lamar, or Mahomes.

Now if at age 30 Randy Moss joins the Eagles and Jalen throws for 50 TDs and wins league MVP our collective perception of him would change. We would no longer think of him as a roster baby. No one outside of Philly has ever called Hurts the best QB in the game. Hurts is not universally regarded a top 2-5 QB in the game. Once more you're a slimy rat piece of shit.
Let's compare Brady and Hurts through the time frames in question. By 2005 or 2006
Brady
>3x pro bowler
>1x all pro
>1x led the league in TDs
>1x led the league in yards
>3 SB wins
>2 SB MVPs
>2 top 3 MVP finishes (18 total votes)
>113 ANY/A+
Hurts
>2x pro bowler
>1x all pro
>0x led the league in TDs
>0x led the league in yards
>1 SB win
>1 SB MVP
>1 top 3 MVP finish (1 total vote)
>107 ANY/A+
And this is in the context of Hurts having had multiple ALL-PROS (Brown, Barkely) at skill positions, while Brady only had 1 pro-bowl WR (2001 Troy Brown) and 1 pro-bowl RB (Dillon 2004), nevermind all-pros.
Clearly Brady had a far superior resume, ergo he also had a superior perception. It's that simple.
The more apt comparison would be Burrow if he had won 2-3 rings and an extra pro bowl. Though in this case it's more like public perception of Burrow is ahead of
Burrow
>3x PB
>0x all pro
>1x led the league in yards
>1x led the league in TDs
>3 SB wins
>2 SB MVPs
>0 top 3 finishes (0 total votes)
>109 ANY/A+
(also in the context of Burrow having far superior offensive weapons, including multiple time all-pro Chase). In this hypothetical scenario, plenty of people would be calling Burrow the #1 QB in the league.

The problem here is that people don't really dispute that Mahomes is on-pace or slightly ahead of Brady through 7 seasons. What people argue is that Mahomes is better than Brady ever was. The NBA went to shit because they fully guaranteed every contract so all players have to do is try hard for one season, get some sucker to cough up a grossly overvalued deal that won't match their actual productivity and then coast until their next contract year.

Look at Kawhi, he's the King of this shit. He couldn't bring himself to play in SA any more but when he was auditioning for a new contract somewhere else suddenly he found the grit to persevere through an entire postseason (played 9 games his final year in SA but 60 in his contract year with Toronto). Ditched 2 teams he won titles with to go to LA instead, forced them to trade for Paul George (lol), ended every season by deciding he wasn't healthy enough to play (after consulting with his own doctors instead of the team doctors) and never played as many games as he did in Toronto....until his contract was expiring. Then, coincidentally, he was as healthy as he'd ever been in LA. And that sucker Ballmer coughed up another $200 million and Kawhi promptly missed half the next season and came back to "lead" the team to a first-round exit. But hey, he finally figured out how to finish the playoffs healthy: just lose in the first round and you don't have to play that many games. Totally worth that $400 mil Ballmer's choked up so far.

Your argument would have worked if you picked anyone but Kawhi. The stats and eyetest showed he's the closet thing to Michael Jordan when healthy. He carried his team to a ring and was one of the best players. He just has bad genetics and couldn't stay healthy.

>Eagles
I hate that those two Superbowls have forever linked that subhuman fanbase with my Chiefs.

Eagles fans behave like fatherless children and don't know how to conduct themselves as champions.

They are still crying about the refs and turf from the 2022 Superbowl, which is behavior you expect from poverty franchises like the Raiders.

Act like you've been there before. Be humble in victory AND defeat.

You faggots talk as if the NBA season was massively expanded beyond where it normally was at some point, but it's been 82 games since forever and somehow players were able to deal with it despite having worse nutrition, training, and medical tech available at the time.

Wilt played 80+ games nine times and had 2 more years of 79 games played

John Havlicek played 11 80+ game seasons

Jordan had 11 80+ game seasons and his last was at age 39

John Stockton has 16 seasons where he missed ZERO games

Tim Duncan's team was one of the pioneers of load management and he still played 6 seasons of 80+ games and was in the high 70's for most of the others

Curry has played 80 games 2 times
Tatum has played 80 games once
Embiid has never even played 70 games

These guys are playing the same schedule everyone always had and are getting WAY more rest than previous generations. So what's their fucking problem? You need more games off? Bitch, you're already taking them.

You are right that they had to run things more honestly when they had competition. Pride is the coolest defunct sports company in history imo. I think there was a 5+ year period of the UFC being at its peak when the athletes from the WEC, Strikeforce, and Pride were coming into the UFC, and it made for some really intriguing fights. Once they were fully absorbed I think you’re right.

The UFC and NBA suck for similar reasons. When the UFC had to compete with Pride, WEC, and Strikeforce they put on a better product. Their revenue was driven by star power. The UFC and NBA went to shit once they signed long term network deals. Now the UFC doesn't have to worry about creating a new GSP or Anderson Silva, they will be paid regardless so they can churn out shitty fight cards. Same applies to the NBA and their multi billion network deals.

The players are sitting out games because the league and sports media is telling them that the regular season doesn't matter. ESPN and FS1 tells them that only rings matter in GOAT debates, so they focus on the playoffs and join super teams to chase after rings. If the NBA and UFC went back to the star driven business model, they would put in more effort. Blame the executives, not the players.
