The Ward is what makes it disgusting. Low cost, high power, evasion AND nigh-guarantees a 2-for-1 is a combination of things that no card should have. This thing is NUTS, doubly considering it will be in a black shell that can just remove shit that might absorb those counters. It's basically not a downside at all. Not like your opponent getting 1 extra power means they'll be able to race your fucking turbo-juiced evasive threats.

What's a good way to get into EDH and build a decent card base? I haven't played since Zendikar and that was only for a year, and before that I played a lot from 5th edition through 8th. So I have no cards anymore.

Would grabbing a pre-con and a box of Commander Legends be an ok way to start? I don't expect anything amazing, just to have a batch of stuff to build on.

Yeah, they already printed a pushed 4-drop that does tons of landfall-related stuff, but I really hope we get some sort of insect card to hold a tribal deck together. It's difficult relative to other Modern decks but it's a bit overstated, kind of depends what your skillset is as a player. If you've over only played Modern/Standard then sure it's difficult.
The deck slaps so you will dumpster people. I bought it recently to play Modern for the first time in over a decade and 3-0'd the first FNM having never played it against someone before. Only a dick move if you are slow/incompetent with it. But at FNM level most people are pretty chill and concede early without making you play it out.
