I can not figure out where these two interior chest pieces go or what they're supposed to connect to.

I was only going to build the legs tonight, but I did and I wasn't sure I had all the waist parts aligned properly so I thought I'd go ahead and do the torso so I could get in place and make sure I had everything correct, but then I hit these two weird pieces and it's late and I might just go to bed and hope it makes sense in the morning

I managed to play a game yesterday.
1500 points chance encounter, dwarf expeditionary force vs vampires.
My dwarfs were stuck and pressured in my half of the table for 4 turns, until a lucky doomseeker with runic axes opened a path to the ethereal necromancer.
When the undead started crumbling my firepower got much more effective.
The centre of my formation still got destroyed by the only remaning undead: the dreaded skeletons with spears.

I think it was always a case of hide-the-general to avoid crumbling.
Vampires are melee-oriented, so always at risk.
Maybe in Fantasy there were better options for a vampire wizard archetype (necrarchs). Now I always see necromancers as general and caster, Wight BSB for buffs and sometimes vampires for melee damage.

The current options for vampires in ToW are rather weak compared to older editions.
Crumbling wasn't that scary when your vampire general is the strongest thing on the table.

So Vampire Counts in ToW returned to a style from the past, before the first Vampire Counts armybook even released. Just playing general undead with a dash of pointy teethed faggots here and there.

Hard to say. The profile is still good and you have some options, but you really have to choose your engagement. Either you move with a big block, and blend in safety, move with cavalry and hope to hit hard on the charge, or fly around and risk destruction by combat res every time.
My dwarf experiences are experiences:
>dwarf warriors initially hold a charge of black knight + vamp, but get terror routed on the following round, run and die.
>hammerers tank a charge of black knight + vamp, and a few die, then the king directs 6 attacks of great weapon on the vamp, removing it.
>Thunderers + sapper with bazooka hold a charge of black knight + vamp, only the vamp makes it. Kills the champion in a challenge, then dies by combat res.
>flying vamp faces 14 longbeards, kills 10 over a few rounds. Is cut down by great axes and combat res.

That's what Undead was in 4th edition. Very centred around the necromancers. There was also an experimental necromancer's horde army list at the back of the 6th edition book, which couldn't take vampires but almost all the chaff was a few points cheaper to compensate.
Personally I miss being able to field a big scary vampire in TOW but having grown up on 4th edition undead I quite like having the necromancers be back in charge. I actually refer to the army as undead when I'm writing lists and paint schemes now.

If you look long and hard enough you might find something, but more often than not Etsy prices end up being barely competitive with GW prices once you add in shipping. It could be better for you depending on your location, but for me it's usually in the 15-20 eurobux range. Add that on the Etsy price and it's not all that competitive anymore. More often than not I might be looking at saving 10-20% per model but the flipside is that it' resin and unless I've verified that the printer is selling good shit it's a gamble as I've gotten a lot of bad models that I had to refund. Given that Warhammer is a luxury hobby as it is the few extra euros I shell out to James for guaranteed quality is well worth it.
I only use proxies and 3rd parties if I want models that James doesn't supply anymore, like the Fabelzel Chaos Dwarfs or iron recasts of old sculpts. Proxying existing ranges nets me with an army that will mostly cost the same and at least to me won't look as good as I've not seen many proxies that looked like proper Warham minis, but that's a personal opinion. If you see a proxy range you like more then definitely go for it. I just don't think the monetary discussion here really holds up anymore.

I can only speak to the land of chicken fried steak, but here I've noted some etsy is super cheap but mid to shit quality, and shipping often does kill it. However many smaller shops are willing to play ball so like my buddy constantly gets new armies for 1/3rd price, many with good prints but admittedly some shit ones.
As for me, being in the land of consumption I find with patience I get armies super cheap from people offloading projects. I got wood elves for virtually free and a bunch of empire for less than half of msrp. I have to fix others models but worth it.
I also have a 3d printer but it's an older model so the quality is limited. The new ones I think are very capable and I think it's the most efficent route to get into the hobby. I personally don't find the 3d print hobby fun as kitbashing and rescuing models but I think it's worth it for many on limited budget. Just agree too many 3d printers make "their dudes" over established asthetics that look like trash but hey I'm not even cutting my mould lines properly so who am I to judge?

NTA but could you elaborate on what you mean by this a little more please? Nta but I do think a lot of 3d designers seem to forget their shit is meant to be painted up and played with and the end of the day, which they don't really keep in mind when designing the sculpt. Then there's the general issue of stuff not matching the gw "feel" for a lack of a better word. I'm not entirely sure how to describe it, but yknow those models where you can just instantly tell they're 3d prints even when in a vacuum they're competently made and look decent.
Picrel is an example of sculpts I think manage to capture the (modern) gw sculpts perfectly. Would never have guessed they weren't official if I hadn't known. Unfortunately it seems they've also captured the gw pricing.

I understand that, I'm the same really. However, and forgive me if this is too deep lol, I think part of being a good Warhammer opponent is "putting on a good display" for the other player. To me that means a fully painted and based army, and one that's aesthetically pleasing to the opponent even if it's not their first choice of faction. Or in other words the aesthetics are as much 'in the spirit of the game' as the gameplay. So I think being tolerant of other people's unusual model choices is a sportsmanly thing to do, but in return they should try to build an army that their opponents will enjoy seeing and playing against also. Which imo means no Korean MMO style prints lol.

>>96300211
That makes sense. I would never have a go at someone for using the official models (even though I print my armies because I'm totally done with GW). I would hope my opponent was respectful of my army and I would be offering the same respect of theirs in turn. As for cheesecake, yeah that's bad. I tried extra hard to find a vampire countess model that had no whiff of cheesecake about her, couldn't find any, and in the end I digitally sculpted a more vampiric face onto some random fully clothed female baroness model.

>>96300355
I agree with all points. I try and find models that have the warhammer vibe and also a modest amount of detail to paint (and draw the eye to). I actually backed the Kickstarter for those rats too and have the whole set on a hard drive somewhere now, but had already started printing up another creator's (pic) which are decent but not excellent in terms of 'feel', however the creator is always excellent in terms of print quality so it was a nice quick army to print. Probably one I'd think twice about putting before an opponent though, unless the paintjob comes out great.

I figured out why this kit sucks ass. They did all those textured rock pieces that go under the armor because they wanted you to be able to paint it glowing from within, like in the game. So you need those textured bits underneath to do the cool glow effects.

The problem is, they didn't realize that model kits are different from video game models. And on the actual kit in hand, those decorative gaps on the shins and around the belly are so small, you can't see shit. So the glowing effect doesn't work. It basically can't work, because the parts that would be the brightest are in the deepest shadow on the finished kit.

That's why the shins are 8 parts each and the torso has a big u of plastic hanging from a tiny scrap of plastic on the inside. To give you the option to do a literally impossible paint job

They aren't bad, just a bit plain. They get the job done.

I think there are two small issues holding them back. Firstly, they could use some other stuff around them to make a bit of a scene. A skull, a rat, an offering bowl, maybe even just a tuft or two and some little rocks. You don't want just a thing, you want a little scene.

Secondly, they are a bit plain. You could tie a rope around one like it's a place of worship or there's something magically sealed inside, add some chains like sometimes people are chained to them, add some blood like somebody got killed on one.

What you've got is totally serviceable, but if you want them to be full on cool you gotta add the little touches that imply a story or create an emotion

no, i've built a lot of the modern kits, this is something else. the sentinel is a whole different animal. modern GW kits can sometimes be a b bit of a jigsaw, but they mostly go together painlessly, you just cant pose them very easily.

the sentinel was completely different. shit that should have been 2 pieces was arbitrarily 15, almost nothing had guide pegs or notches, you were often asked to glue very large parts to other very large parts hanging on by nothing but a sliver millimeter of flat on flat plastic.and if any of those flat on flat attachments in the legs or arms are even slightly off, the outer relief carving segments then wont fit snug and the entire leg wont go together, but again because its all flat on flat with no guide pegs you also cant really dry fit it either.

this doesnt feel at all like any other GW or FW kit i've done in the last 20 years, it was fucking wild. i've built nagash, big archaon, lords of change and great unclean ones, the new kroak for age of sigmar, this thing was on a whole other level, nevermind that the instructions, instead of being printed in that high quality color coded modern style, were printed in black and white on news print and the instructions even left out a few steps when it came to building parts like the hands.

Also important to note, the instructions are wrong. Step 1c there has you attaching part 11 to the shin, but there is nothing on the shin to hold it in place. If you try to glue that piece there you will probably fuck up. Part 11 has a peg that fits in the knee. If you attach part 11 to the knee before you connect the knee to the shin, it works fine.

There are other parts that aren't flat out wrong like that, but are much much easier if you build it out of order.

5 for heavy cav (typically) since cav depend more on doing damage rather than taking advantage of static bonuses to sin combats.

For elite melee infantry you're probably going to want 10-20 depending on their cost and abilites, they can take advantage of static combat res and do a decent amount of damage, but eventually you start getting diminishing returns as the unit get bigger and bigger.

Light/chaff infatry you want at least 20, but if they're cheap enough running 30 or 40 is ideal since they kind of exist just to have as many bodies as possible.

Ranged infantry you want the minimum amount most of the time, having models behind the Frontline if you're not on a hill just means they don't do anything or are less effective than your frontline.

I don’t remember anything else he mentioned for that AJ, but I DO remember he didn’t do it in a gay song! Other peeps I talk to say he’s been right about everything he’s mentioned but everything I’ve seen him mention has been super vague as to β€œprotect his source” but imo it’s vague enough to be just covering his ass in case he gets anything wrong. Anyone got any recs for 3D printed terrain (fdm or resin) for WFRP fantasy/TOW?
Preparing my first table but not sure what would fit on there. I'm thinking side pieces like fort parts at the very edges, cottages, hills, maybe rivers(?) with bridges(?), possibly a centerpiece.
Trees I think I already have enough examples of, although if there are any you particularly like i'd like to hear about those too.
I feel like I have good examples for running skirmish style stuff like Printable Scenery/Black Scrolls/Iain Lovecraft/Dark Realms/etc but for boards closer to mass-battles like fantasy where you don't want quite as much stuff getting in the way i'm a bit more stumped about what you want for a good game.
Definitely want something on there though even if it's only in the corners and not really affecting the battle much, lack of detailing can make me lose interest but I obviously don't want to smack down stuff that solely gets in the way of the actual game.

rivers look cool, but ruin games unless they're effectively irrelevant

Middle of the board terrain is good with the caveat that it should never be impassable terrain in the middle or you get armies struggling hard to get proper fun action.

I've seen a good use of rivers with one river dividing the table with a large double bridge in the middle. The river was treated as difficult terrain and the bridge was the open ground passage over it. Other than that kind of scenario i'd go decorative with the rivers.

How many MAA and Archers might you expect to be "Standard" in a 1000, 2000, or 3000 point Errantry crusade? I ask as I'm planning on getting the MTO models and want to ensure I have "Enough".

I assume he means that weird vampire dude as the 'AoS dragon ogre' but yeah it's a stretch. If anything Kragnos is the closest to being a Dragon Ogre; he's an ancient being who hates dragons and used to war with them before he made a pact with some God and now he's immortal but his people are mostly/all dead, and he's comatosed under a mountain until a massive bit of magic wakes him up and then he goes on a rampage.

Play a 2000p joint game (1000p for each player on each side) between my Beastmen and Warriors of Chaos against Dwarfs and Cathay.
It was a pitched battle with lots of ups and down as units were locked in combat, fleeing, being overrun, peppered by guns and cannons, all in great fun.
My chaos friend and I lost the game though as our opponents managed to turn the tide even after losing both of their cathayan cavalry one side of their flanks, but a few good rolls of their dwarf cannons blew many holes in our remaining ranks of dudes.
In the end, and in a nice little dramatic fashion only my beastlord (and Ghorgon) were left on the field from my army when the game ended.
Even though it was a casual game all of us contributed to fun, silly warhammer narratives which made the game even better for us.

The shitty demon prince was available up until it was updated, much to the rejoicing of everyone, and the only reason why tow would have to use the older one is due to a retarded policy about having as little overlap in products as possible between aos and tow.
TOW is getting new models, will keep getting new models, and noone sane is pretending you have to use old models to play tow.

Sure I have some more experienced friends (unavailable) that would love playing Hans the Hobo and try to rise in their station over time but let's not throw the newbies in there just yet.

Re All Dwarves adventures, reading the rules and fluff blurb about Skycrafts in the guide I genuinely would love to do a Chaos Wastes exploration in a Large Airship, ala Gotrek & Felix, to try and reconnect with a lost Hold. The airship would be a mobile base of operations and players could either be a full squadron or explorers on foot.

One could easily have a player as a Thane trying to prove himself by leading the expedition, with orders from his King, with Engineers abound to fly the Gyrocpters or Bombers.

The good thing about the Wastes is that flying creatures abound and you can pull off pretty much anything from your ass.

6th Edition friends, I have a question about magic.

-----

Page 135 of the main rulebook says "In a player's Magic Phase, which follows the Movement Phase, each of his Wizards can attempt to cast each of his spells only once.".

-----

Page 153 of the main rulebook says "Some magic items have spells that are wrought into their very fabric that can be unleashed by their wielder during the Magic phase. Possessing a Bound Spell item does not make a character a Wizard for the purposes of the rules.

The spell held in a magic item is cast in the player's Magic phase just like other spells, and can be countered in the same way as ordinary spells. Spells cast by magic items succeed automatically - no Power dice are needed.

A spell from a Bound Spell item can be cast once per Magic phase. A character cannot have more than one Bound Spell item. Each Bound Spell item has a Power level included in its description. An opponent must score equal to or greater man this to dispel the spell.".

-----

Okay, so the same wizard can only cast a particular spell once per Magic phase. What if that same wizard has a bound item that contains a spell that the wizard already has? Can that same wizard cast the spell AND use the bound item that contains the same spell in the same Magic phase?

Thanks.
