Reflavoured as custom. For example my “Adrax” is a custom kitbash of an emperor’s champion named T’oma “Scion of the Crucible”. Then for my Vulkan proxy is Erasmus Gar’Seha, still a chapter Forgefather but he isn’t looking for Vulkan’s relics. Instead he searches for old battlefields around the Ghoul Sters for the chapter to strip of anything useful.

The Emperor's Champion is an epic hero. Well, until the new codex where they're only limited to 1 per many but not epic heroes, so you can put improvements on them.
I think this is good for solitaires, and other pseudo epic heroes. Lets them to be a bit customised to show that they are exceedingly rare, but not unique in the galaxy.

Patriarch is also an Epic Hero. I mean it's really more than a gameplay rule than a flavor thing. GSC are designed to only field one Patriarch, so instead of writing "you can only field one of these" on every datasheet like that you just give them the rule. It also means you can make them stronger because you don't hvae to worry about any interactions with enhancements.

I feel like I have a dinosaur opinion but here goes.

SOME special characters/epic heroes are alright if they aren't unique, like the Swarmlord got an excuse for showing up in a number of places. Or the avatar, even though the craftworld should REALLY not want to bring it out often, there's at least a present for it showing up for every craftworld. Pic related is mine themed for my Ghost house.

You make your own version of a character, great! Use the profile, no problem, I use to use old metal Celestine as my /Yourdudes/ saint back in the Witch hunter days.


I feel that the established special characters makes the setting smaller imho. Both in terms of size and renown. Every battlefield should not warrant the attention of a Primarch, or the Silent King.

I still recall a game I played AGES ago in 5th where Kharn, the only special character on a whole apocalypse board, showed up in his landraider, and got sniped by a squad of Nob bikers with a Klaw, all that reputation, get ganked by a random chucklefuck orc with a power tool. While hilarious, it kind of makes the legends of the setting, like Kharn, seem a bit lackluster.

Said it a thread or so ago, but I miss when marines in like 4th edition had the chance to customize rules and wargear for their chapter and chapter master. In essence creating a hero with purchased rules and still being uniquely /yourdudes/ and not an epic character. I am heavily considering starting a new small army to make my dudes, but am not interested in reflavoring an already known epic hero.

I'm making my own mega tactical rock for the first time, I want this Chaos Lord to literally stand out since he's in regular power armor, and his pose suits it. PVA glue wasn't adhering well so I used superglue, and I have Vallejo diorama fx paste to blend the OEM plastic and cork, and to give the entire thing a rougher texture so that there's no big flat spots. It looks mushy but when it fully dries it contracts and becomes more grainy.

Weapons and armour. I don't care about upgrades like searchlights, auspexes, bionics, purity seals, terminator honours or any other such upgrades the old books were full of. But I need to know that the weapons and armour of your models are accurate. The only exception I make to this is hunter killer missiles because they are one shot weapons you only ever took when there were spare points. I just glued one to every tank and then used it or not depending on what was on the list.

I don't think it will ever happen. I think GW has worked hard to increase relevant representation of female characters in the setting through Sisters of Battle, Inquisitors, and various Knights, Guard, and AdMech characters. Adding female Custodes even further reduces the pressure on the. To add female Space Marines to the setting. I think the only problem they are ever going to find insurmountable is the Primarchs family feud being a buys only club and then slowly bringing that forward into 40k making it more and more difficult to let any other kind of plot or characters breathe. But they can't exactly add a female Primarch anyway so there's nothing they can really do about it at this point.

Seems doubtful. Female space marines would practically look like male space marines after receiving the geneseed anyway (testosterone is a hell of a drug) so I don't see how it would matter. Smartest thing they could do is simply retcon the "it only works on men" away, and then emphasize the way the process dehumanizes and twists humans into monstrosities of muscle. There's a way to write that that makes it clear that space marines barely look like they did before the procedure.

The only character on my army that fits the epic & "a unique individual" in my army is Eldrad. And no, I use him as is. I like Ulthwe and like his fluff as a Sisyphean figure in 40k.

WYSIWYG should not be an absolute rule, and therefore will always be imperfect and vulnerable to malicious intent if it isn't offered some scrutiny, but that is the cost of having the final say in how /yourdudes/ are modeled. What matters the most is the spirit in which it is presented. If you have a squad of Eldar Guardians but want to play them like Dark Reapers, at the very least put down a post-it note with the models saying these are Dark Reapers as a reminder to us both. The only way to deliberately try and use WYSIWYG to gain advantage is to deceive the other players.

Introducing female Astartes wouldn't mean much more than having odd looking heads on some of them, and if you really want to you can already do that. If what you really want is boob and ass plate, Sisters of Battle already have you covered if you only use OEM and the wide wonderful degenerate world of 3d printing has you even more covered if not.

What I do instead is number of kills each one of my unnamed characters have gotten and give them special names based on their feats.
I set a goal for myself that if one of them kills at least twenty models without dying, I'll repaint them, but none of them have. For my Knights I just give them war damage.

Do space marines pay for anything, or do they just show up, drain ressources and leave (even nices chapters)?
Even knights and lords of the middle ages need to worry about finances, and space marines must take a lot of ressources.

Well the focus of my dumb camera went to the middle guy but you get the idea.

Left is filled and sanded, right side is how they start. The other two test models (I got messier and messier for the tests) were to see if I could fix even worse slops of going too fast with sprue glue.(not done yet)

I am happy to report that the primary test model came out flat where I needed it to be and the pit in one of the shoulders I didn't fill right - I could fill again and sand without the extra material falling out. It's a little procarious around the helmet crest but I can always do battle damage in the locations I fuck up.

The fucking shoulder holes are going away (like the 3rd edition models I'm used to) and I just added 140% of the time to each model to complete before paint touches them.
1 of 72 are now ready to be base coated. Going to do batches of 20 I think.

Take your time. Scraping mouldlines before you glue your piece will make it less likely that you miss one. Use less glue than you think you need so it doesn't spill out around your fingers when holding it as it sets. You can scrape a glued piece after it has set fully(1-2 hours) and glue again to fill small gaps. For bits like chainsword teeth or ribbed hoses do your best job to get them tidy and then use your plastic glue to smooth them out. Do your best to build a single model at a time to prevent you from using the wrong parts,but if there are repeated sculpts build them both at the same time. Have fun

There's literally 10 editions worth of game that for the most part uses the same models. Is it so surprising to have people try an older edition, instead of only sticking with the newest? It's not like it's always the best. At least with an old edition, everything for it is already out with erratas and mathhammered to death. So it's easy to tweak them to your liking and just play, rather than consuming product and getting excited for next product. Even 30k technically has fire editions now, since there's 6e, 7e, 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0. Granted, 7e is more like 6.5e and 1.0 is mostly just 7e rulebook for HH with slight tweaks, but there's still differences between the first three editions, no matter how small.

To be fair today it's fucking hot and unpleasant and I slept 5 hours each day on monday and tuesday. Nta but had these older citadel clipper gifted to me ages ago and they are so impossibly strong. I've bent the handles and pitted the blades on dozens of cheap Amazon clippers trying to snip paperclips/brass rod or big resin sprue gates, but these have stayed sharp for 4 years and I use them for everything. They feel even nicer than the current gw snips which feel exactly like Amazon snips imo
