What if we took one effect that was already on rate for a 1 mana card
and stapled some MORE extra value onto it so its already above curve just by playing it
and then let you dump mana into it for an extra effect
and then its also a recur target for bounce effects that create card advantage and/or loops
heh, imagine
>gee maro, don't you think if a 1/1 prowess for 1 is already playable, letting it keep two permanents on board for fodder, or recur it, or dump mana into it for card advantage or more for a win condition, makes it a bit OP

I dunno... 100 cards makes set up kinda hard.
Maybe have each player with one guaranteed card on the table, so that they always have access to the cornerstone of their gameplan at least?
Maybe limit it to creatures... And legendary, so it can't be just any busted thing.

How, how the FUCK. HOW THE FUCK. HOW. THE FUCK. as a game designer.
How the FUCK do you, as a game designer, watch a Standard tournament, and in that Standard tournament half of the fucking games that "Pixies" wins, it won without EVER connecting a single pixie for damage.
Half the fucking time the deck won, it was ENTIRELY from Hopeless Nightmare draining 20 fucking life in the game. No interaction. Zero play on board. Just looping fucking shocks to the face while bouncing shit.
HOW. THE FUCK. do you see that happening and not immediately walk off into the fucking sunset and disappear form society for decades, until some random hiker finds your skeleton covered in moss in some ditch in the wilderness.

The whole point of EDH is that it was niche and casual. It was about building kitchen-tier decks with the cards you already had at home. The lengendary creatures were all iconic characters from old MtG lore, like the original elder dragons, Akroma, Lovisa, Jhoira, Takeno or Isamaru. Now WotC prints almost 400 legendary creatures every year. Most of them are comically powerful and Commander is hyper competitive as any other official format. You can't go to your local store with a homemade EDH deck and play with other people because power creep and must-have cards have warped the whole playstyle.

EDH informs every facet of Magic design, from individual cards to larger marketing moves (UB is because EDH).

Capitalism.
The moment there is value etc... etc...
Water. Earth. Fire. Air.
The world of Avatar is all about the four classical elements. Some of its population are able to "bend" an element, magically controlling it. The world is divided into four nations: the Water Tribes (based on Inuit people), the Earth Kingdom (based on China), the Fire Nation (based on Japan), and the Air Nomads (based on Tibetan monks). In addition, there is a "spirit world", a realm layered on top of the real world, where all manner of weird and spiritual shit resides. There's weird shit in the normal world, too: most animals are a mixture of real world animals.
In order to maintain the balance between the four nations, there is the Avatar cycle: one person born to a nation that is able to not bend just that nation's element, but all four. When an Avatar dies, that power is reincarnated into someone born in the next nation in the cycle. The Avatar can learn to commune with the spirits of their previous incarnations for advice and knowledge. They can also, under extreme duress or training, access the Avatar State, borrowing the power of the past incarnations.
>>96346131
Avatar's story starts with Avatar Roku, the Fire Nation-born Avatar before the main character. Once friends with Fire Lord Sozin, the two drift apart when Sozin starts getting ideas about taking over the world. As in, Roku goes "bitch you better fucking not, I'm the Avatar". In their old age, Sozin comes to Roku's aid as Roku fights an erupting volcano, but then abandons the exhausted Avatar to die. Sozin then bides his time for twelve years, waiting for a firebending-boosting comet. With the comet's arrival, Sozin genocides the Air Nomads, knowing the next Avatar-to-be will have already been born there. He also begins attacking the other two nations.
Except... Sozin missed an airbender. Before the genocide, the elders of the Air Nomads were wary of the Fire Nation's aggressive posturing and told Aang, only 12 years old, that he was the Avatar and he's going to need to save a whole goddamn world. Panicking over the sudden massive changes to his life, Aang runs away with his flying bison Appa, gets caught in a storm over the ocean, and instinctively suspends the two of them in ice when they're about to die. He thus misses the extinction of his people and the next 100 years of war brought on by the Fire Nation.
>>96346135
Aang and Appa are found at the south pole by two siblings from the Southern Water Tribe: Katara and Sokka. Katara is the last living waterbender from the Southern Water Tribe, as the Fire Nation has been systematically raiding the ever-shrinking village and killing any benders there. Sokka is a non-bender, but is good warrior and strategist.
Aang's awakening sends out a beam of light into the sky that is seen by Fire Prince Zuko and his uncle, Iroh. Zuko was burned on his face by his father, Fire Lord Ozai, and banished from the Fire Nation until he could capture the Avatar - an impossible task at the time, as everyone though the Avatar was long dead and the cycle broken. All of this was punishment for Zuko speaking out of turn during a war meeting, at the goddamn age of 13. Iroh's been watching over Zuko in his exile for two years now. Iroh was in line to take the throne over Ozai, but the death of his son during an attack on the Earth Kingdom left him despondent and ineligible to rule. It also made him into a better person, and he's trying to teach Zuko how to be good. Zuko, meanwhile, is a frustrated, obsessed teenager trying to restore his "honor".

Team Avatar's goal throughout the first season is to reach the Northern Water Tribe at the north pole, to find a waterbending master to teach both Aang and Katara. Aang quickly discovers that in his absence, the Fire Nation has basically been able to take over the world. Only the great walled cities of the Northern Water Tribe and the Earth Kingdom's Ba Sing Se are truly safe from attack, any other settlements are either occupied by the Fire Nation or under constant threat of takeover. They make a bunch of new allies and pick up a new pet: Momo. They're constantly chased by Zuko, and another rival firebender named Zhao. To put it shortly, Zhao is a massive dickbag, but he's an Admiral in the Fire Nation army and has a lot more resources and good standing at his disposal than Zuko. Not to put more pressure on Aang or anything, but he also learns that Sozin's Comet is returning soon, so he needs to kill the current Fire Lord before then.
Everyone reaches the Northern Water Tribe at about the same time. Aang and Katara find a waterbending master, while Sokka falls in love with the Water Princess Yue. Zhao attacks with a fleet of ships, and Zuko sneaks in to capture the Avatar. It's revealed that there's a reason for Zhao's sudden boldness at attacking the Northern Water Tribe: he's discovered a secret weakness. The Moon and Ocean Spirits have taken physical form and reside there, as a pair of fish. If he kills the Moon Fish, he KILLS THE MOON, which will rob all waterbenders of their powers, as the moon was the original waterbender (you know, pulling tides). All Zhao has to do is reach the fish, then his army can take the rest of the settlement.

Iroh is 200% MAD that Zhao would resort to such a world-affecting move just for personal victory. Zhao goes through with it anyways, and his army starts advancing. Aang counters by merging with the Ocean Fish, becoming a massive water monster that pushes the Fire Army back and drowns Zhao. Yue, who had been saved by the Moon Fish as a baby, sacrifices her life to restore the Moon Fish to life. She becomes a new moon spirit, and everyone gets their waterbending back. After all the chaos, Katara's mastered enough waterbending to become Aang's teacher as they continue on their travels. Zuko abandons his quest to capture the Avatar, after seeing what such obsession did to Zhao (and getting his ass kicked).
While season one had the main characters travelling to bits of all four nations, season two focuses on the massive Earth Kingdom. With Katara teaching him waterbending, Aang needs to find someone to teach him earthbending. They find that teacher in Toph, a blind girl that uses earthbending "sonar" as her sight. She's from a rich family that coddled her for her blindness, while she was secretly sneaking out to participate in earthbending wrestling. Even after learning how capable and not helpless she was, they insisted on holding her back, so she runs away to join Team Avatar. Her family responds by hiring two mercenaries to find her.

Meanwhile, Zuko and Iroh have been labelled as traitors by the Fire Nation for their "failure" at the north pole. They've been travelling through the Earth Kingdom under false identities, and Zuko is not adjusting well to not having a goal in life. The new Fire Nation antagonists hunting the Avatar are Azula, Ty Lee, and Mai. Azula is Zuko's younger sister, a sociopath that threw rocks at animals as a child and smiled when Zuko had his face burned. She's a perfectionist and manipulator, and can lightningbend, a more powerful form of firebending. Ty Lee is a acrobatic nonbender that jabs people's pressure points to temporarily cause paralysis and block the ability to bend. Mai is another nonbender that's really good at throwing blades around.
Team Avatar happen upon a massive library in the middle of the desert, where they learn that a solar eclipse will occur before Sozin's Comet comes back. Firebenders lose the ability to bend when the sun is blocked, so it will be the perfect time to attack the Fire Lord. Unfortunately, Appa is captured by sandbenders (an earthbender variant) and sold to traders while they're doing this, leaving Team Avatar without their easy flying transportation. Wanting to use the eclipse information to recruit help from the Earth King, and figuring that Appa will probably end up at a place of huge commerce, the team decided to go to the Earth Kingdom capital: the walled city of Ba Sing Se.
>>96346163
Well, shit, turns out Ba Sing Se is secretly under the control of the city's security forces, the Dai Li, and the Earth King has no fucking idea that there's even been a war going on for a century. Team Avatar manage to expose the Dai Li and convince the Earth King to pitch into the war effort. They also reunite with Appa, which the Dai Li had captured and hidden to maintain their story. The Team briefly split up to tend to their individual matters, during which Toph is captured by her parents' mercenaries. She goes "fuck that, I'm inventing a new form of earthbending, see ya losers" and learns how to metalbend. Meanwhile, Zuko and Iroh also arrive in Ba Sing Se to start a new life, and Zuko is FINALLY learning to actually be happy with himself.
Azula has other plans. Pretending to be Earth warriors, her trio infiltrate the city and release the Dai Li from prison, who then pledge their allegiance to her. With their help, she stages a coup and lures both Zuko and the Avatar to her. To the utter devastation of Iroh, Azula manages to convince Zuko to switch sides back to evil and help her fight Aang. Aang goes into the Avatar State during the battle, when Azula immediately shoots lighting through him, killing him. The good guys get the fuck out of there, and Katara is able to revive Aang with the magic water she's been carrying around from the north pole fish pond. Iroh is imprisoned, and the Earth Kingdom is finally conquered.

Season three starts with Aang finally waking up from a weeks-long coma. The lightning strike has blocked his chakras, and he can't enter the Avatar State. The Team fill him in what he's missed: they captured a Fire Nation boat and are hiding within the Fire Nation itself. With the Earth Kingdom lost, they've lost the massive army they wanted from the Earth King. The whole world thinks the Avatar is dead. Instead of the huge attack on the day of the eclipse, they'll have go in with with small group of whoever is left to help them. Meanwhile, Zuko has been welcomed back into the Fire Nation with welcome arms, as Azula told everyone that HE killed the Avatar, not herself. Zuko and Mai start a relationship, and Zuko begins to enjoy the royal sweet life and positive attention from his father. However, he slowly starts to realize that he's made a terrible mistake. Oh, and Katara is forced to learn a terrible variation of waterbending, bloodbending.
There's also a beach episode. You've probably seen screenshots of it.
The day of the eclipse comes, and the attack on the Fire Lord goes forward. However... he's not there. Back when Azula was pretending to be an Earth warrior in season 2, she learned of the attack plans and warned her father. Zuko DOES know where the Fire Lord is, and uses the brief window of him not being to firebend to force him to listen to him. Zuko calls the Fire Lord out on all the evil bullshit he's being doing, including, you know, burning his own son's face over a minor infraction, and tells him that he's joining the Avatar. The Fire asks why Zuko doesn't just kill him now, Zuko says it's the Avatar's job to kill him. The world will see it as a justified response, and not just a prince killing a king for power. With the eclipse ending, the strike force surrenders to the Fire Nation as a distraction, so Team Avatar can escape.

With the eclipse plan an utter failure, the Team reverts to their original plan: kill the Fire Lord before Sozin's Comet returns. To do that, Aang needs a firebending teacher. Oh hey, here's Zuko, now fully a good guy and wanting to help. It takes a while and a few redemption adventures, but they finally accept Zuko into the group. During of these adventures, Mai betrays Azula to save Zuko, and Ty Lee betrays Azula to save Mai from Azula's wrath. Azula's not happy.
Aang is learning firebending, but he's having trouble with the idea of actually needing to kill someone. He communes with past Avatars, who all tell him "dude, you gotta kill that guy". He then talks to ancient spirit, who gives him some secret knowledge. With the comet arriving soon, Fire Lord Ozai preemptively declares himself Phoenix King, ruler of the world, and tosses the Fire Lord title to Azula. Being basically abandoned by her father as an afterthought and having lost the loyalty of Ty Lee and Mai, Azula fucking snaps and starts banishing people left and right, eventually ending up completely alone and hallucinating her missing mother.
>>96346180
The comet arrives, and the Fire Lord uses its firebending boost to razing the Earth Kingdom to the ground from an a fleet of airships. While Aang confronts the Fire Lord 1-on-1, the team splits up to stop the ships and fight Azula. Azula has FULLY lost it by this point, and is in an incoherent rage what she's defeated. Iroh, having broken himself out of prison and also being powered up by the comet, unites all the elder masters from the series and frees Ba Sing Se from Fire Nation control.
Aang is not doing well. He can't enter the Avatar State and the Ozai is way too powerful. By chance, Aang gets thrown into an outjutting rock and jabs him right in his lightning injury, which unlocks his blocked chakra and allows him access to the Avatar State again. Ozai is immediately put onto the backfoot as Aang chases him down, finally restraining his limbs into rock with earthbending. Aang's about to deliver the killing blow when he exits out of the Avatar State, still unwilling to kill someone. Ozai takes this opportunity to release himself and strike, only for Aang to use the secret that the ancient spirit taught him: spiritbending. With some struggle, Aang is able to strip away Ozai's ability to bend, for good. With the Fire Lord(s) defeated, Zuko becomes the new Fire Lord, and immediately orders the Fire Nation armies to stand down. The Hundred Year War is over.

They did it completely to themselves since the whole "YOU HAVE TO KILL THE FIRE LORD!!!" conflict was completely forced. Like, what the fuck was the plan during the eclipse then?
And the Phoenix King bullshit and Ozai's evil plan was silly too.
>We're going to burn down the entire Earth Kingdom!
>By using a handful of air ships burning a maybe mile wide strip of land while moving at a crawl
>And this is supposed to burn the largest continent on the planet during the hours long window of the comet passing
Should've just been burning Ba Sing Se to the ground for symbolic purposes. That would've tied in with the White Lotus retaking the city too.

The lion turtle was fine, it had been making apperances since early season 1. Blocking Ozai's powers was fine, it's just a more powerful version of what season 3 Aang, and anybody Ty Lee hit, experienced. Of course the army would lusten to their new Fire Lord, especially since the old Fire Lord just got his ass kicked by the fucking Avatar.
The only silly thing was the rock.

I dislike how 1v1 60 formats no longer feel like the "developer intended way" to play this game. Standard format feels like a dumping ground, rather than a curated environment. Deckbuilding/brewing in Standard feels like looking for meaning in chaos. Why should I invest myself in a format when the developer doesn't even care for it? (And if the developers did care, they would instantly ruin it like the Horizons sets did to Modern). Magic sucks.

This. After FIRE when something clearly needs to be banned, people say "oh if we just ban X unfair poorly designed card the format will be saved" not realizing that lower on the power scale is A, B, C, D, E strategies and cards that are all equally poorly designed, they just happen to be weaker.
The way cards are designed now reminds me of the two-ships-passing-in-the-night phrase about Modern that was used, because the pro-active windmill slam Timmy creature and turn him sideways is infinitely stronger than hoping I drew the right removal spell or interaction piece (that still makes my opponent + because each card they resolve shits value now).
So now banlists, especially for standard just become FIRE whack-a-mole. Ban 30 cards if you want from the format, but I guarantee the 31st best card is equally cancerous and single-player. That's how the game is now designed.

Is it over then? Good, I don't need to hear anymore of it. I don't care who your favorite character is or how well or badly their cards match to your idea of a character. I don't care about legends at all UB or not.
I'll go further and say that legends are the root of evil that's destroying the game. Their pushed designs for commander are breaking the game day in and day out.
For legends they have decided to change templating to this card, instead of the traditional ~-
Completely unknown legends now will get a couple of cards, because these lore limited UB sets need to have several versions of a character, to fill them.
And don't get me started with personal pronouns. Cards are cards, you use 'it'. What's next? you can get DQ for misgendering a card?

Showing some paintings and statues does not justify one appearing last minute and granting an easy out for your main character's main inner conflict. Even having him learn some new technique from Ty Lee would've been better.
>fire lord
Ozai already gave up the position to Azula at that point because he made some new title for himself. Then for some reason the position is able to be wagered in an agni kai, was that not a fucking option to take the position away from Ozai before? Has nobody ever thought to challenge a weak and elderly Fire Lord before to take their spot? Also Katara was allowed to interfere for some reason and the results are still valid, can people just gang up and jump you?

At least you're not so far gone to try and justify this one. The writing was very hit or miss throughout the show, it was clear they were better at writing characterization than they were at writing plot.

Avatar
Final Fantasy
Spider-Man
And more to come (Maybe Star Trek? Or Steven Universe?)

Nobody talked about the lore that I remember, well, during the whole five days when it was relevant and it's one of the biggest comicbook franchises in history.
Final Fantasy was annoying but it was stupid shit like where are my FF## characters? so pathetic that it's endearing.
At least the Amano art was good. But this set has no redeeming quality.

That's why spider-man flopping is so important. The fantasy franchises that are suitable for this and recognisable enough are rather limited. And what are they going to do when they run out of suitable IPs? another FIN, another ATLA, the Silmarillion?. The excitement for a second set won't be as big as the first one.

It looks like a mix between Mechanized Warfare and Gnawing Crescendo, I don't know, you kind of want a wide board and probably need to be monored, then it does nothing until at least 4 mana. You can eot cast this for X=3 then next turn Song of Totentanz, that's cool I guess but really fragile.

what lore is there to talk about? capeshit lore is a mess, even the fans know it. If you even tried to summarize the Spider-Man "story" no one could even do it beyond just his origin and maybe the origin of some villains. Maybe the Gwen death or the Clone saga might come up but beyond that, nothing. There's no coherent story. And to top it off, most Spider-Man fans, the actual comic reading ones, really hate the official lore. Fucking Paul.

The sad thing about the "cultural war" we live now is that there is barely any space for nuances anymore. For exemple: Yes, Lowyn elves were racists but they were not KKK racists but rather US inbreed (cousins from Alabama) racists. They saw every other race as inferior and not worth of meaningful interactions but the majority of elves wouldn't try to kill another just being just for being ugly. For exemple Kithkins lived in Elven territory and were actively protected by them, Flamekin were allowed as couriers and mailman in Elven territory. Elves would not go out for extermination hunting against borgats unless those proved to be violent (but elves would "sport" hunt any borgat close enough to elven cities)
>>96343711

Comics are interesting because by their nature, these characters are very interpretative (especially older ones like Superman) and sometimes a writer will just... Not 'get' a character (see that, uh, one writer who had Carol Danvers call Magneto the guy that compares everything to the Holocaust who apparently didn't realise that Magneto's THING is he's a Holocaust survivor) and so you just kind of have to deal with that run being shit for a while. It does mean that after the fact, you will often have a lot of good runs or one-off stories that somebody can recommend and they just sort of say "ignore the rest" but that sort of feels like a very weird way to engage with media.

He's not really obsessed with it, it's more meant to inform his characterisation. "Never again" is basically his motto, so he views mutantkind as the oppressed group getting targeted and potentially genocided. And... He's basically not a villain nowadays? He's not necessarily GOOD, but he's basically stopped fighting the X-Men too much because there's bigger issues.

Unlike DC, there are no pure universe-wide reboots so you can start reading from an ancient 1960s comics run and that shit is technically still canon (unless some of it got retconned in some way years later, which happens from time to time)

Buying a comic book for the first time can be jarring because it's like tuning in for the 42th season of a serial drama. Especially for Spiderman. Marvel comics are specifically written as a soap opera with superheroes. This has given us great origin stories but this formula leads long-standing characters into really weird places. So most storylines share the same continuity on paper, but you're better off picking and choosing your own headcanon. While each writer has to deal with the baggage from previous runs, they strive to put a different spin on the characters.
But yeah, Peter and the Osborn family are the worst offenders by far.

Yeah, for all the problems I have with DC's constant reboots, I think they do a bit better job of meaningfully altering the status quo of its bigger characters than Marvel. Alfred's been dead for years in Batman comics, Superman and Lois have been married with kids for even longer. Meanwhile Spidey's still living with Aunt May, still not with MJ because One More Day refuses to leave, still basically a penniless shmuck reporter, etc. Yet they also make Peter go through some REALLY weird fucking stories in main continuity despite this weird strict adherence to certain assets of the status quo, but he never really comes out meaningfully altered by them. Like I think the current storyline for Peter is... Doctor Doom (who's taken over the world as Sorcerer Supreme it's a whole thing) has delegated some magic tasks to Spider-Man and given him several lives to use up and so Peter's just sort of running around getting killed a bunch.

Honestly, these big shared universes are borderline a mistake in the first place. It's always hobbled the Big Two under a crushing weight of tradition. There's some sort of cosmic irony that the American comic makers are the ones suffocated by traditions while the Japs of all people have a wild west, throw shit at the wall and see what sticks approach.

Agree. On that note, I also dislike how much American comics have become repetitive and self-referential. For example, Batman was insufferable in the recent Failsafe saga. When the writer pulled up the multiverse to show off alternate versions of the cashcow, I tuned out. the Joker fatigue is also overwhelming. He is such an overrated and overused character. We have to pretend that he is a deep, tragic figure when he's the least interesting villain in the entire DC rogue gallery. The Killing Joke one-shot is dogshit and I'm tired to pretend it's not.
>>96349698
The core problem is that financial needs are at odds with good storytelling. Spiderman is not something that should have lasted this long, which is why they keep rehearsing its origin story. Norman Osborn should have never returned. Aunt May should have stayed dead. Every time Goblin returns, he adds a shitty retcon in Peter's backstory. Like when we find out that Gwen Stacy fucked Norman and they had super kids.

people high on Quantum Riddler atm
NOW FOR THE FUN PART
4-Color Ritual
>vs Broodscale Combo
easy 2-0. i hit a Flare off turn 2 Oracle, opp casts Broodscale off Cavern, i untap with Shardless into Neoform, sac my Oracle and dig up Clarion Conqueror into a concede. Game 2 i have a Force of Vigor for her turn 1 Saga and she tilts off the face of the earth.
>vs Esper Pile
grindy 2-1. i lose game 1 to Solitude Ephemerate as is tradition. Game 2 we trade resources for 15 minutes, he spends both of his Enchanters on Birthing Rituals, i land a Chalice on 1 to stop the insanity with Ephemerate and i get to 'do the thing' with Notion Thief in response to a Quantum Riddler while he's Hellbent. I hit off Shardless Agent again into a 3rd Birthing Ritual that sacs into an Oculus which manifests another Oculus.i Sink his only Flying blocker (a Riddler) and get in there while he fails to natty draw another Solitude.
Game 3 i get to ramp with an Oracle and cast a Pond Prophet plus Birthing Ritual that flips over a Flood Moon. i have a Subtlety for his first Solitude and a Flare for his next one. I get another hit with Shardless Agent into a second Ritual and flop down some Eyeballs for the win.
>vs Boros Clown Car
sweaty 2-0. game 1 he has a standard Guide Pride Ajani open and i get a turn 2 Prophet turn 3 Ritual Oculus that he doesn't immediately have removal for. I have Force for the Goblin Bombardment and he doesn't attack. i 5 him with the Eye and get to Ritual out Flood Moon on my next end step, leaving him with basic Plains and some Islands. He gets a Static Prison off on my Eyeball and dings me with a jumped Ocelot. I get to cast Oracle into a Neoform and get another Eyeball and completely miss on that turns Ritual. he untaps, i Manifest Dread, he does nothing and passes. I untap, flip a manifested Eyeball and he concedes.
game 2 he has Guide Pride but i open Illness into Chalice on 1 and he shows me a hand full of Cats and Guides he has to go with the 2 on board.

They fit ok. There are different aspects of each, like fire could be either RW or RB depending on the style. Earth is pretty solidly WG. Air I'd put as U, maybe UW. Water is probably GU. The issue is that none of them really fit B super well and there are four of them so it's hard to balance out the colors.

No, in MtG fire and earth are both red and air and water are blue. You could argue that air is also green since a lot of wind themed spell are green (like hurricane, tornado etc...) and water could also be white since white get more and more ice based spell (gelid shackle, white dragon, on thin ice...)

Finally starting to crack Pioneer scales open.
The combination of a few things is starting to get it reliable. Shambler and Basri's Lieutenant keep things stuck on the board to soak up counters.
Prairie Dog was a key find. It's a threat that pressures midgames hard, and the lifelink both helps enable Heliod and sustain against Aggro.
Dyadrine is a big upgrade that gives us solid card draw while also being a late game titan with Trample to push through that lethal crack, which Stocking the Pantry could never threaten.
It's fun.

Ok so I dreamt that there existed a card called Deploy the Ruckus which was a card that didn't really exist that was meant to be printed but was unfinished and left off the sheet or something, but you could still find it on Gatherer using special software.
The art was somewhat similar to this, there was no frame except the black border and at the top it had the card name. It was supposed to be an instant or sorcery, might have been white, and all it did was draw a card, but since it had no mana cost you couldn't actually cast it from your hand (presumably the mana cost hadn't been added nor any real effect). I think it was probably intended for Wilds of Eldraine

then i went on xmage and the server kept crashing in the middle of my matches

Honestly the thing that kills all capeshit is the cement shoes of continuity. Look at Invincible; it's doing a bunch of standard Superman plots done a hundred times before, but because it doesn't require you to be hooked to a wiki or do 200 hours of capeshit homework it instantly became superhero series of the year, was utterly beloved and sold like buckets.

I think the implied reason is that most people in the fire nation, or at least the ones close to the fire lord's court, were just fine with his reign and his expansionist campaign. Sozin started the tradition and it has been like that for 100 years. All the people in the fire nation that were against the regime lived far from the main lands or were just killed or driven to exile, like Jeong Jeong.
Also, as the other anons said, Ozai was a super strong firebender anyways, so trying to fight him in a 1v1 duel would be a bad idea anyways.

It's only weird because people overthink it. Comics are serialized storytelling involving the same characters and setting. Some things may be carried over between stories, there might be callbacks to older stories, but for the most part all the context you will need is contained within a run of stories by a particular writer. Older comics use first-person narration while modern comics use recap pages to keep people informed on an issue-by-issue basis. An example of this storytelling outside comics are the James Bond films. No one has ever said Bond films are too complicated to get into, that they can't watch the most recent one because they haven't seen the twenty prior films, or that they don't understand why he's fighting a guy named Janus because they thought the villain was named Goldfinger. So while I can understand anon getting frustrated at Superior Spider-Man, at the same time it's kind of like saying "I played Goldeneye as a kid, then a couple years ago I decided to get into James Bond, so I started watching No Time to Die from the middle and dropped it because I was confused."

Yes, but Magneto is literally the guy who compares everything to the Holocaust as a justification to commit terrorism and mass casualty attacks. Also a lot of readers dislike the whole "totally not and has never been a villain" shtick they dropped on Magneto because it strips nuance and neuters the character.

If bad hands due to spell/land ratios is such an issue that you need to have mulligans in the game, then why instead of mulligans don't you just play with two decks?
One exclusively for basic lands, and the other for every other card. Whenever you would add a card to your hand, you can pick it from any deck.
Wouldn't it solve bricky hands better? Or would you argue that bad hands is a feature?

You can't just change a core part of the game like lands at this point, it's too ingrained into how things are. So many mechanics would need to be changed and reworked that it would be easier to just make a new game from scratch. Which they did, its called duel masters.

It inevitably makes matches too repetitive. In Magic you need to actually adjust your deck to improve consistency. See pic related, which got banned in multiple formats because it made decks way too consistent at too low of a cost (free). The game is built around it, as well as pretty much all decks. Aggro decks rely on taking advantage of weak starts, control decks will run cards solely to make sure they hit land drops, etc. Also plenty of other games have mulligans regardless of lands, idk what you mean by that.

Because it would completely destroy the game. I disagree with extra decks and I think managing a landbase is part of the game's deckbuilding appeal, but it just flat out would not work at this point.
Like, they've said before that if they could redo the game from scratch, they'd remove instants as a card type and make a supertype- so you could have instant creatures, instant sorceries, instant enchantments and so on, instead of having to give them flash. But they can't do that, because that'd mean errataing literally thousands of cards and completely changing the game's mechanics and rules.
If you wanted to implement a land deck, all land tutor cards are bricked and need to have errata, and also they lose a lot of their appeal because they don't shuffle your deck anymore. Landfall as a strategy needs to be completely reconsidered because now every deck has completely reliable access to lands. Aggro can just straight up run 60 bolts or Goblin Guide creatures and never ever run out of gas. Many graveyard-centric strategies have to change course completely because how does milling work now? What about effects that just change the whole deck like "mill half your deck"? How do these work now? Is mill-combo just a completely nonviable strategy? Does mill affect both libraries, making it twice as strong by default? Are the graveyards mixed (so now you have to separate them every game) or are they separate, meaning all "mill cards, return [thing] from your graveyard" also get bricked? The entire game has to be reconsidered from the ground up. It's just not worth it.

Is an actual shit. Whit the time they are wasting with this sub products no one but the most retarded zoomers fall for they could have added real formats, Cummander, spectator mode or at least improve the actual client

Potentially, yeah. Being able to tutor for a card is always a big upgrade, seems people already forgot how much it can matter.

yes, but redirect spells are reactive and most of the time are sitting in your hand doing nothing. If you're casting a learn spell to tutor Redirect Lightning on the fly, that's the cost of the tutor spell and the tutor spell takes up a slot.
How often do you see people actually play with Redirect effects?
Someone gave the example of Veil of Summer, but that draws a card, makes your spells uncounterable, AND gives all your creatures hexproof

Are you perhaps implying no other colour than blue should have access to counters anon?
>>96354179
I know right. Powerful interaction has to have all these additional costs and caveats but you can put down a two mana cost creature that has haste, can't be countered, and prevents creatures from being countered or a 2 mana cost spell that is designed to be out of range of shock/stab but prevents the opponent from playing spells on your turn with ETB triggers on attack with no drawbacks.

veil of summer vs thoughtseize:
they don't look at your hand, and you draw a card
redirect lightning vs thoughtseize:
they don't look at your hand, and you get to thoughtseize them
>yes, but counterspells are reactive and most of the time are sitting in your hand doing nothing
You see how stupid that sounds?

>yes, but counterspells are reactive
Counterspells hit ANY spell. Redirect lightning hits a single target spell and require a new, legal target. If the player is playing destroy creature spells, they're most likely a control player with no creatures
Veil of Summer is better than Redirect Lightning. Drawing a card is better. Proactive vs reactive

No. Black/white aggro have ran 4-5 removal spells for as long as the game as existed. There is no White weenie deck that didn't run 4 stp if it had the ability to do so. Red will often use shocks/bolts to remove creatures because they end up doing more damage with unblocked creatures than if they held on to the burn to focus down the player.

>Print a bunch of red redirect cards into standard
>Print no wincons that target a player
>Most cards that target a player in standard still give the caster/controller all the benefits, or they give the caster/controller the option to target everyone, negating the point of a redirect
>Pic related are the only cards in standard that target a player that are worth redirecting
They've printed 3 of these spells with this exact effect since Thunder Junction and now we're getting a fourth. Why even make these so open if the only thing you can do 99% of the time is redirect a kill spell?

Woah woah a 2-drop out of shock/stab range? You're not thinking FIRE enough anon. We're printing unkillable 1-drops here that flip into a 4/4 lifelink that gives indestructible to your whole board.

Lightning bolt
Swords to plowshares
Dismember
Metal misstep
Gitaxian prove
Fatal Push
Galvanic discharge
This is the level of interaction we should get in Current Standard according with the level of threats.

Counterspells are (usually) 1 for 1. Veil of summer only hits two colors and spells that target or counter, but because it's a 2 for 1 it's much stronger. Redirect is in a similar boat.

nta. I think creatures that can be played upside down as lands would be quite interesting and could alleviate mana problems.
just make them decently playable. not too bad as a vanilla, not too good so it always feels bad to play them as lands.

No one has been asking for any card in particular only all the cards so they rather ignore it until there's genuine demand.
