Deconstruction shit is Neon Genesis Evangelion. Millennials saw it growing up, realized it was genius, saw it as a "deconstruction" then thought Deconstruction = good.
What makes Eva good though is it's played entirely straight and the Deconstruction actually brings out the horror of the situation, that this shit would mindfuck the child pilots, the fear of extermination would basically mindbreak the adults, and the child pilots then have noone to rely on because they realize everyone is essentially completely mentally broken and they finally break themselves. We probably had two decades of shows that are unwatchable. Many tried to emulate Lost. Breaking Bad was OK. BSG was OK. Some random shows here and there. Comedy writing has been abysmal!! But many times the people lack taste, artistry, experience.

Every once in awhile you see something great coming along from where you don’t expect and that’s because of real artists were given something cool to do. I think a lot of it stems from boomer emotional instability. If you grew up with boomer parents, there was inevitably a moment where they would just fly off the handle over something minor and innocuous, leaving you, a toddler, totally confused as to why you just got yelled at. I tried to give her ideas to spice up the story but she didn't want it, she liked her idea as it was, it had to be boring and mundane, that was the whole appeal, it wasn't Die Hard, Rocky or Home Alone, it was something more novel to her, something that boldly rejects classical concepts such as telling a story that's entertaining or even has a point. To people like her it's the equivalent of "fuck your cute drawings with a sun in the corner, I'm gonna make something you would never do, I'm gonna paint the whole canvas in just one uniform colour with horizontal strokes only".

So here we are, dealing with the after of the Millennial mentality, having to watch stories about the mental illness of the main character's lawyer's cleaning lady's son, because exploring that makes them feel a way they like. I'm a millennial and I've been saying for awhile now that, when it's all over, millennials will be seen as the most hated generation. I already feel like we've gotten smeared to an extent that gen Z and the baby boomers never did. Gen X got off totally unscathed, somehow. I never see anybody talk shit about them, and the members of that generation - always didactic in a way that gen Y, Z and baby boomers can't even emulate - seem to view themselves as voices of reason in a world gone mad, the last stronghold amongst a temple of ruins, and everyone just goes with it. They somehow manage to dictate how people feel about everything still, which is why people still love bands like Nirvana. Gen X have complete control over how everyone else feels. It's strange, because particularly the men of that generation are mentally stunted and seem like they never truly evolved beyond the age of fourteen although this criticism gets inaccurately applied to millennials. But the millennials had been smeared in a way that no one else has, and as this generation ages, people will be increasingly disgusted by us and we'll become a dartboard for everyones frustration. The hatred the baby boomers get now is just like a teaser to how people are going to feel about the millennials.
