I think I can explain this, it happens to me too when I try to write fanfics

The thing is, you have a story in your head
The more time passes the more that story evolves in your head
So sometimes without you actually advancing the story in the real world, the characters in your head have gone through several arcs and they don't act like themselves anymore
And it's hard to write like they were instead of their new personality

So basically, Toby wrote chapter 1, and in the time it took to develop chapter 2, probably Toby went through the story a few dozen times and in his mind Susie was already a good character.

They show up in Deep Dark, when you're in a Dark World and the dark of night can get in.
They don't show up in the Closet because there's no windows.
They don't show up in Chapter 3 because Tenna is switched on, which is also why that Dark World is a TV one and not a Living Room + Kitchen one.

Nah, they show up during the darkest dark, which those areas are. Absolute pitch black. Being that dark likely make them pseudo-fountains, in fact. Not enough to spawn a full titan but enough for one SPAWN

the pure crystal on its own will do something big for the ending, but getting the twisted sword in chapter 5 is too late, by that point fate is already sealed. seam will laugh at you and offer you some tea.

what you need to do is go through the alternate route in chapter 5 to reach chapter 6, which will loop the player back to chapter 1 while keeping their inventory.
this will allow you to collect the chapter 1 and chapter 2 crystals twice, allowing you to craft the twisted sword in chapter 2.
