Kris never really got anything he wanted in life. It's pretty clear now that Toriel never really liked him, his brother's gone, and his father can't get his act together. He feels powerless, but you can make it so Noelle is under your control. All of a sudden, even if its not technically Kris, he's the one with power after suffering from those who would abuse it his whole life
Noelle meanwhile is receptive to this because, without her sister or father to guide her, she so desperately wants someone, anyone, to tell her what to do. Carol neglects her but even as Kris commanded Noelle to commit atrocities, he was paying attention to her, he made her feel useful.

And like the Shadow Mantle said, no matter how Kris feels and how disgusted he may be by all of this, there's a part of him that secretly relishes all of this

Susie is not a part of the prophecy.

The prophecy was originally supposed to be Kris, Noelle, and Ralsei. Noelle was supposed to go with Kris into the closet and fall into the darkworld, starting their adventure. But Susie is a rogue element, and was not predicted in the prophecy. She can ignore fate entirely and insert herself into the story and fuck with the prophecy. It's why the girl is depicted with a cloak and holding a sword, rather than as a big dino with an axe. Susie is mistaken thinking "the girl" is her in the prophecy - it was SUPPOSED to be Noelle, but she ended up being taken out of the prophecy by Susie's fate manipulation.

This is why Gerson mentions that Susie can rewrite fate with hope, with her own willpower. The broken prophecy passage is that the girl dies, but it will never come true now because Noelle isn't with them and Susie isn't a part of the prophecy.

Susie IS the key to all of this, and the weird route will be you taking the original course of the prophecy, while the normal route will be having Susie fuck with it to get a better ending.

i played clair obscur recently and i enjoyed how that game had enough strategic depth for you to make up strategies and builds while still having an active-time "dodge attacks" type system like deltarune. i think the whole spare/kill system in this game is kind of vestigial and it would be a lot better off if we just had skills and levels and more centralized equipment like a regular rpg. this'd be way more fun if there was more opportunity to strategize.

It seems to be panning out. Pacifists get to save Berdly's arm (and his gaming ability), Tenna, and Jackenstein. They also get a full castletown.
