1. Fantastic combat that is easily the best of all the BG games. I am a turnbased chad though and never like RTWP and just dealt with it. Rewards critical thinking, planning, and use of the environment.
2. Party members are generally good with the exception of Wyll (Smith) who stands out as the most boring, blandest motherfucker on planet earth. Astarion, Gale, Lae'zel, and Shadowheart are all likable and good. People on /v/ hate Gale because he was too quick to try to fuck you (regardless of gender) at release.
3. Plot is fucking weird.
Act 1 feels like its own game because the primary plot (no spoilers) is the mindflayer tadpole put into your head at the beginning of the game. It feels like vague justification for the actual plot of act 1 which is goblins vs druids. Act 1 is fucking huge.
Act 2 feels a bit weird. It has to deal with the major plot but again is really more about... well, I won't spoil it.
Act 3 feels like they tried to put the plot into 2 acts in one and it is kind of rushed and sloppy.

If you like CRPGs it is hard to not recommend the game. I really think you'd have to hate CRPGs, turn based combat, or be a sincere and actual /pol/schizo to dislike the game. If you hate gays, just be evil and kill them.

I would say the companions in BG3 are kinda interesting at first, but then you realize how one-note they are. You've heard one dialogue with Astarion, you've heard them all. And if you haven't predicted the plot twist behind Shadowheart, this must be the first fantasy game you've ever played. I guess the companions are being carried by the voice acting, with Neil Newborn, Jennifer English and Deborah Wilde going out of their way to elevate the whole thing. Sure, some of the companions in BG2 were one-note as well, but there was like million of them, so if you get bored with one, you have a dozen other companions to pick from.

There is nothing "complex" in this game, it's based on 5e. But you can play any pure caster and you will do alright. Storm Soc/ Tempest Cleric are the most powerful casters pure or combined. But they are all decent. Arcane Archer is good with dealing damage and status effects as long as you stack some arcane acuity. Assasin/Glommstalker/Battlemaster is ranged as double handcrossbows are recommended.

I still don't know if I like that "you can do anything, whenever" design philosophy BG3 inherited from D:OS. On one hand, it's nice for the game to allow me to tackle content in any way I want, on the other, more often than not I am just going to accidentaly skip a lot of story content by simply exploring and accidentally doing things in the wrong order.
