Me and my friend were having amazing time in both World and Sunbreak but were bored to death with Wilds and our total time in co-op must be around 5 hours or so. There's nothing to do and there are like 2 or 3 monsters that are fun to fight in co-op. Wait for the expansion and play either Worldborne or Risebreak in the meantime.
Or older games, but keep in mind there are separate singleplayer and co-op quests and you'll have to do village quests to progress through the game properly and unlock useful shit.

Because compared to a TCS Charge (the absolute most extreme case in the game), the majority of moves in the game indeed are not significantly changed by Focus Mode, dumbass. And even then TCS still doesn't 'completely change' the GS in terms of its gameplay, I would concede it makes aiming a good deal easier, yes, but not completely trivial or 'different' entirely.

I’m going to effort post to explain to how focus existing fucks up the gameplay as it importantly has a compound effect on the entire game. I’m going to give a very simple example:

You are playing crit draw greatsword. You behind a monster and you hit it and cause it to topple. You want to go bonk its head during the topple.

Step one is get close to his head.

In wilds you simply hug the monster, walk in a straight line and pivot on a dime. In old games you have to take an arcing path to square up on the monster.

If the monster skeleton has an erratic topple animation like kushala, you need to time the hit. In wilds, you do not, as you can change direction mid animation.

You literally have several gameplay aspects of timing and movement replaced with a simple flick of the analog stick. It is un-engaging. But back to the “compounding issue”. Take the path back to the monster head. With wilds, you can freely pivot on the spot. These means the path you take can always be simple and optimal. Even if there are other hazards or obstacles in your way. IE, you don’t need to engage with small creatures, other invaders, slopes, ledges etc. and your chances of having to engage with any of these things decreases because you cover less distance in wilds.

I've been playing lance since Tri. Focus mode does help the lance a lot, but the claim was that it drastically changed the moves themselves, which it doesn't outside of the aiming that applies to all weapons. The block changes were a bigger deal in Wilds, lance has always been pretty easy to aim and focus mode doesn't help the bigger issue of closing the distance when the monster moves out of range.

I've been trying to workshop an succinct way to describe why the playerbase dropped it beyond just "it's bad". Best I came up with was

Something a lot of anons aren't considering is that monsters were also a lot slower in the old games. That old two step turn they used to do was basically free combos. Wilds is kind of like DS3 where they're trying to find ways to compensate for the monsters increasing agility.
