Sans is only harder by virtue of being a longer test of endurance. The Roaring Knight on the other hand deals a truckload of damage per hit, their attacks are way more aggressive, you have to manage three party members, will swoon for -999 forcing you to use ReviveMints, their attacks such as the sword tunnels are really hard to avoid and the win condition pretty much requires Susie to stay alive as she's the only party member able to deal over 100 damage per Rude Buster.

Deltarune in general is harder than Undertale.
And while Sans is still the hardest fight, everything Deltarune throws at you better prepares for something like Sans and also the Knight is technically harder but it's a shorter fight so it's easier on the endurance in comparison to Sans.

I kept hearing this so I finally tested it by downloading a save file before the Sans boss fight and my conclusion is that the browser version is indeed slightly easier, but not by much. Biggest difference was that I felt like the final "bone stab" attacks were harder to dodge.

Overall I’d still say Sans’ fight is much harder on a practical level. We can argue about technicalities back and forth all day, so why not just be realistic and say that Sans is a far more difficult hurdle for the average player to make it through. If you haven’t actually done the Genocide route you won’t understand just how truly bullshit Sans’ gimmicks are, especially him attacking your SOUL from the menu. I don’t even think this simulator represents it well, since from my memory it just trains you to dodge his patterns through muscle memory. He wears you down hard. This is coming from someone who never played a bullet hell other than some Newgrounds TBOI before UT/DR. It took me upwards of 20-30 tries to beat Sans on the replay of Undertale I was doing before the chapters dropped, and I beat the Knight in 6-7. Knight is basically Deltarune’s Undying as of right now (which took me 3 tries on the same replay).

Also anyone who says Undying is harder than Sans is just lying. She only really gets difficult with the red SOUL mode and you can learn the trick for those patterns fast as hell.

i think the phenomenon is that we’ve had ten years of fighting sans because we all told each other he was one of the hardest bosses of all time or whatever, the anon who said its like riding a bike is 100% correct. hes more of a zeitgeist meanwhile undying never really got that hype. some secondaries have played sans simulator hundreds of times yet never touched a real geno route and fought undying, so when they meet what was meant to be the first actual challenge of the route without practice and a gimmick other than the default movement it throws them for a loop. come next year its going to be the same thing for knight, with revisionists and secondaries talking about how knight was never actually that hard because they played knightfight simulator on their school computers a zillion times, and eventually the consensus will rubberband back into jevil or snowgrave spamton being the actual hardest boss of ch1-4

Yes. If you could beat the Knight, you could learn Sans without an issue. The Sans battle has a lot of attacks, but they are not that hard once you learn them. The Knight's attacks are harder, especially when it splits the screen.

It's the opposite for me still. Sans is much more forgiving in lieu of all the advantages you get to mitigate the endurance of the fight

Nigga, there's a difference between "not fun" and "boring", and when I wrote that post I was referring to the latter, which I thought was made pretty obvious. Genocide is FUN, but boring and tedious.

He did the smart thing and set up all the events through Neutral and Pacifist first before intentionally changing events in genocide to have the most impact in relation to their regular scenes. nta but Yellow's Genocide route is one of the most frustrating experiences ever. The point of the route isn't to gain power and one-shot everything, but it fails to make you feel any sense of growth statistically. Every boss, and I mean EVERY boss, is designed for you to do 60 damage with optimal equipment. You will fight Dalv, not even a Genocide Boss, very slowly, until he is dead with 60 damage per attack. You will then go through the whole game, get to Zenith Martlet, and still do 60 damage when your Attack Button is freed.

It made me appreciate base Undertale knowing not to waste your time with a boring fight when nothing about it will be narratively different. It's so fucking annoying that Martlet even gets a harder version of her first fight when she runs away before you can kill her anyway. The fact you don't get a real showdown with the only cowboy monster in the game, and instead get CEROBA of all fucking characters to get a two-phase boss fight is absolutely ridiculous. That made me appreciate that Undertale didn't pull some shit with Mettaton dying and then having you fight Alphys or something. Way to dampen the fucking mood.

tl;dr: I agree with you, and I hate people calling Yellow's Genocide route good when it's as big of a narrative letdown as Pacifist.

having 3 potential actions per turn doesn't make that much of a difference when your only real source of damage is susie and she needs to be constantly fed tp and kept alive, and you optimally want at least kris alive to feed tp and use items if you fuck up

In Deltarune, your "genocide route" via weird route is full of people being afraid of you/Noelle, it starts out fine and all, but by the end of it everything's running from you/her, even Spamton's scared shitless in the dumpster. By the end of it, you're walking down empty streets, "kill" Berdly like he's nothing and move on.
In Undertale, you talk to a lot of NPCs in the game in the other routes, but in this route they're just gone and mostly what you kill are just the generic stuff in regular-ass RPG battles, who don't react any different than anything you'd do in a neutral run, especially since a lot of people's first runs are played like a normal RPG just killing stuff as they go (often killing Toriel too, oops.)

Besides, I meant "empty zones" like, this was Undertale and not Deltarune, you don't see fights on the screen, you just run back and forth a bunch waiting for RNGesus to let you tick one number down, then do it again in the next area, then the next. You can't just run after them on the screen like you do in the Weird Route in DR.
Move the Undyne fight to Snowdin.
Make the NEO fight into a real fight.
Break into Alphys' lab and find the remaining named NPCs in there, maybe Alphys chucks down some vial that melts everyone into one big Amalgam or something, or she appears in that Aliens exosuit and dies like a bitch in one shot and SHE can be the joke boss instead of NEO.
Hell, make it so instead of having Sans at the end, make him stand at Toriel's door so you have to walk all the way back through the areas (maybe shortened a bit, cutting out the in-betweens) that you've cleared and you really get to have it shoved in your face what it is you've done/accomplished.

I don't understand why people keep trying to defend it like it was an "artistic vision", when the only reason Alphys and a ton of NPCs are written off as "haha lol they're hiding in a bunker you can't see" is to save time/effort.

That's the beauty of Sans's design as a boss. He's all shock and awe, so anyone can beat him if they stick with it long enough since there aren't any complicated execution requirements. Once you learn a segment of his fight, you know it semipermanently. He himself realizes it, so he goes out of his way to be frustrating and try to demoralize the player.

It's hard to say because we still haven't reached the climax of the weird route. So far it feels like it's building up to something.
That said, the weird route definitely gives off more of the "unintended by the game" feeling than genocide does.
Also it may be unintentional, but the game being more explicit about giving you chances to back off even as late as chapter 4 almost feels like the game itself is begging you to stop what you're doing, until you reach what is probably the point of no return. It's hard to explain, but genocide lacks the "oh shit I crossed the line" moment.

In all seriousness though, the Hold Breath ACT is a meme, I don't know why people insist on using it. The extra speed make you move so much sloppier, and consciously holding X to move slower doesn't work because that makes you move slower than your default speed before Hold Breath, which makes the timing and positionings all sorts of fucked up.

You only use it when The Knight does its final attack, since then you have the screen space needed for that extra speed to matter. Everything else is just about small, precide movements.
