DQ11 is a tried and true classic, arguably the second best DQ game after 8. Looks really nice, the story is fine, the characters are fun, the gameplay is exactly what you would expect of DQ. Very relaxing.
Octopath Traveler has amazing music and divisive presentation (I personally liked the diorama look and the character/enemy sprites but wasn't a fan of the post-processing), the combat is a tiny bit more interesting than DQ11.
Bravely Default 2 is irredeemable garbage that shits all over the series.

I'm going through Diamond Dragon at the moment, which is a weapon replacement mod that also comes with a built-in monster replacer plus additional compatibility patches for cyberpunk/sci fi wads. Pic related.
There's also Quake (get the Ironwail sourceport, the Kex engine used for the remaster is kind of shit) and Duke Nukem 3D or Blood.
Dusk and Ion Fury are the only decent throwback retro shooters, the others are mediocre to shit and many are outright Doom mods being sold for actual money, which is a total scam.

Serious Sam does its own horde shooter thing, I regard it in a league of its own. First and second encounter are a must try.

I beat the game without a build guide just fine, but I replayed the first part of the game (up to the junkyard town's "dungeon") a few times to understand the mechanics, figure out the importance of certain skills and pick my favorite playstyle.
As a tip, do not neglect crafting for too long. It's not a big deal at first, but being able to craft high-tier grenades and other combat tools helps a lot. Same for PSI, a few levels in certain PSI skills will give you tons of crowd control.

I'm playing this currently. It's ok for something I got in a bundle, but not something that's worth $9. The game is pretty short and you have to return to previous levels frequently after unlocking an upgrade that lets you get a new item/collectible. I guess you're meant to replay it on higher difficulties, especially since there isn't any real penalty for dying on normal difficulty(infinite retries on normal). Backtracking is probably less tedious as well when you know what you need.

did you try Bloodstained Ritual of the Night? i feel like Iga and his team put all of their best Castlevania idea on that one, lots of equipments, a soul system, quests, crafting, it even has the brilliant idea of adding respawning chests to areas youve visited, the rewards arent amazing but that, paired with the RPG elements and soul system (which are called shards in this game) makes it so backtracking never feels like a waste of time

theres also a hard more so the game is not totally a cakewalk like Symphony of the Night, its not dark souls, but it helps

It's barely a Kings Field-like, honestly, the combat is basic but you will learn there's a certain rhythm to it and if it clicks you won't even mind how repetitive it is. The exploration is... Honestly a little linear, and lacks some puzzles, but it's not too bad. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

They are the same thing. If you owned the originals you got revolution for free. Supposedly there is some issues with revolution on a microscopic level but I can't tell the difference and it comes with more content. HD is a remake, and its fine too, but I would get that AFTER you play the originals. The HD differences are NOT minor, there are some huge changes. Some of these changes are good, like fixing broken spawners and being less janky, but some things are bad like nerfing cool shit and looking uglier.

I've been following the development and the game only got better since then but I'm just gonna drop it for now and get it while it's done. I just know I won't even play until it's done anyway so why even bother buying it now. And yeah, G String is a relly cool game too. It has such a well realized vision of a certain type of dystopian future and it's quite beautiful in how dreary and ugly everything is. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to play something set in a dystopian cyberpunk setting.

I have never heard of that before either, but it looks pretty cool. I really loved Armored Core 6 and this just looks like a jankier version of it. I don't mind that very much since AC6 runs and plays like butter and that's a hard standard to achieve, even more after playing the older AC games which are for the most part also mega jank.

Will keep an eye on it, maybe if the game gets some updates to fix whatever issues the reviews complain about
