Gamepass has been a disaster. I'm sure someone will the "it made profit card" but if they keep shutting down studios they bought, when we already barely get game releases from these 20+ studios they have on hand, we are losing out on potential game releases in the future. Gamepass was suppose to protect these creative studios so they don't to follow the AAA formula. Based on previous shut downs of studios that doesn't seem to be the case. When the Wii U was flopping Nintendo didn't just fire all of their game dev studios because that would be retarded. The CEOs took a paycut until they could get things sorted out again. They realized they needed more games so they told their devs to get to work. They didn't lay anyone off. This put them in a great position to keep delivering unique exclusives all through out the Switch's life which allowed it to carve its own niche out for itself after 3DS and Wii U underperformed, and part of the reason why Nintendo is still so successful today when compared to other companies, at least when it comes to first party games output. Nintendo has expanded their studios after selling a record amount of software on the Switch, the inverse of every other AAA company, Microsoft, and Sony who decided to chase after live service slop instead.

These modern companies are way too quick to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Understandable when many of the people they're hiring are garbage to begin with, but this wouldn't be a problem if they fostered the right talent and continued to try to grow that talent rather than cast them to the side to make investors happy in the short-term.

They took a gamble on Gamepass and it didnt pan out. This is why they're going to get rid of a bunch of their studios. They have the money to ride out the storm and figure something new out, but they grow impatient with Xbox's continued lackluster performance. Might as well just cancel the whole thing if they're going to go this route.

It's too late, to fix this problem, you have to go back to the Xbox 360. I would have continued with what Peter Moore did and not make the Xbone a cloud-based always-online console with a Kinect add-on.
