What the percentage means is that those Oguri Cap or Twin Turbo support cards will multiply your Event Points.
It also depends on the Level of the card itself, the Oguri Cap card by default will increase 25%, at Max LV it'll increase 40%, so if you get 10k Event Points in a career, that will become 14k Event Points, it's a decent boost.

Speed and Stamina are the important stats, along with wits to a degree. Power is needed too for long distance if you hang towards the back, not too big of a deal towards the front you tend to be but still needed especially for the last stretch vs someone like Suzuka.

Guts is just the extra gas tank when stamina falls through until it gets patched. Yes that makes it useful on long runs but its not meant to be the primary stat.
