Selection for breeds or cultivars does not include any sort of "purging" of deleterious genes.

And secondly because selection has a specific goal - achievement of a particular trait - while pursuit of any additional traits reduces the odds of a desirable combination being achieved and therefore increases the time required, exponentially. Time which is limited by natural longevity of founder specimens. If 8000 years ago Egyptians tried to breed Greyhounds but without the insane tendency for osteosarcoma and polyneuropathy that the breed has now, they would be still trying to get a fitting F2 generation today, 8000 years later. All of which simply means that selective breeding is forced to treat everything beyond the desired trait as expendable. Hence every single selectively bred organism in the employ of human civilization being a disease-prone abomination that is fundamentally incapable of independent survival. All dog breeds are way dumber, more prone to diseases and live less than wild type wolves. Same with cats. Agricultural plant cultivars cannot survive without pesticides, fertilizers and weed control - something that their wild type ancestors managed easily. Et cetera et cetera. Selectively bred organisms simply have traits that we wanted in them at the cost of deformed and dysfunctional everything else.
