KH1 is only 20+ hours long with a nice atmosphere to it despite the simple environments.
CoM (the handheld game inbetween) is a bit of a toss up, some people like it, some hate it, rarely does anyone ever love it. skippable if you watch 3 hours of cutscenes on YT instead.
KH2FM is one of the best ARPGs ever made when it comes to gameplay.
after 2 you can quit as the series already peaked there, so it's not a big time investment like other franchises.
simply don't engage with the fanbase.

I would start with fallout 1 because it is the shortest and imo has the best lore and worldbuilding in the series. I prefer 2 because the world is bigger and it is more refined than the first game but many are turned off of the dated pop culture references. Doesn't stop people from liking borderlands though which is 10x worse about it so I don't entirely understand.
Definitely play YS, if I were to limit myself to 1 game per series ys would've been on this list for sure. Ys book 1 and 2 for the pc engine is my favorite, easily the best ost in that series, but I like retro games. I have origin in my library but haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

The biggest issue when creating this list, is that I played many MP games that I remember mostly fondly, but those experiences are too irrevocably tied to playing with friends rather than the game itself. The game is a mere facilitator. COD 2, MW2, BO2, Helldivers 2, Minecraft, Battlefield 4, were all memorable experiences... but beyond the desire to not include normieslop (which I know is posercore), those games were often only as good as I had friends online to play them with. Smash games, even though those games are irrevocably tied to friends, I feel like are too essential to my childhood to exclude. Helps that they were not online experiences too.

There are also games that I spend 200 hours on mostly with enjoyment, just to look back at the experience as mostly life wasting. EU4 would be one of those... and the MP games I listed above when I wasn't playing with friends.

I remember getting warning forever for free in a disc that came with a gaming magazine, it was not good. You can't call people posers when stuff like Red Earth is on there, which is both a piss easy arcade game to 1cc and a borderline nonfunctional and a broken multiplayer game with 1 touch deaths. Actually I played Orange Box. Most of my teen years was Quake then TF2. I remember when Halo CE came out I had it on PC but thought it was pretty gay except for the vehicles, then UT2004 came out which had vehicles anyways, so I was like whatever lol, but then WoW came out and I dropped FPS for a good while anyways. I played COD4 for a little while but I just got bored of it and went to LFD which released shortly after. Straight out of high school I had LFD2, Dungeon Defenders, and Spiral Knights. I mostly played it less and less after that until finally quitting in MoP.

I used to enjoy it a lot, its probably still one of my favorite shooters, i like the variety of game modes and maps on the game, some of them are in space and some are in huge areas. Capture the flag and the one where you pass the ball were one of the my favorites, it had a lot of tweaks as well like big head and faster gameplay and the insta kill shock weapon.
I think the campaign sucked and its the only reason i rate it 9/10 but otherwise its really so much fun, best thing epic made imo.

Have you been sleeping under a rock? I guess AssCreed has fallen off because it turns out normies don't care about OWNING THE CHUDS, but Fallout and TeS are still doing fine. The TV adaptation of former was a huge success and S2 is already in the making, while Oblivion Remastered performed phenomenally as well. The only reason it seems like these franchises/IPs went back in popularity is because they haven't gotten new mainline titles in ages now.

Solid controls, cool robot, snappy and memorable campaign, multiplayer was a good time although 80% of the reason I kept at it was Scorch. Just always sticks out as the FPS I've enjoyed the most even if not the best-designed.

It's a rail shooter from a third-person view kind of like Star Fox or Sin & Punishment but with more abstract visuals and every action being part of the music/soundscape. It's from Tetsuya Mizuguchi who did Tetris Effect, Space Channel 5 and the Lumines series. Infinite is the modern re-release with VR support (Mizuguchi always wanted it to be in VR, though I don't have a headset myself) and a brand new shorter campaign. I love rail shooters and there's better overall out there in terms of length or level design but Rez with good headphones with the lights off is just magic, particularly Area 5 and Area X. I just adore Mizuguchi's work, I'm getting that new Lumines Day 1.

I would say so. I played it for the first time some months ago after a Cave Story playthrough for that game's anniversary made me realize I never had and I thought it was excellent. I played through each campaign and did the glitch rooms to get the secret weapon, and I usually don't fully complete games on the first go like that. It's the most recent addition so it's a bit of recency bias, but I think it's the better Pixel game.

Great action-platformer with some of the best spritework Dimps ever did and a really underrated fighting game side mode. It's definitely the most nostalgia-fueled choice on my chart but I've played through it twice in adulthood and find it holds up outside of a couple stages having some long-winded level design.

Genuine masterclass game, insanely impressive for the original Game Boy, and that's with zero nostalgia since I first played it as an adult going through stuff to emulate. Uh no, the majority of good video games are not console exclusives. Consider this, approximately 19,000 games released on steam last year. That's more than the Switch's library throughout its entire lifespan. There are a mere 717 SNES games with US releases, even less for NES. Applying Sturgeon's Law to this (90% of all things are shit) that means there are only approximately 71 noteworthy titles on the SNES. You could play through all that in one month.

However, all the really good games are on *Steam*. All those old games people used to play, spiritual successors have been made on PC that are for enthusiasts instead of just little kids. This means PC has a thriving indie scene that far exceeds anything on console.
