I want X2. I want a mech that controls like the Hraesvelg, but with an actually good (or customizable) moveset.

The problem with 2 is that the problems of the story are arbitrary and there's a LOT of filler. It's not seinen or shoujo like the rest of the series either, it's plain shounen. But what do I mean about arbitrary problems?

I wanted to like 3, I really do. But I just couldn't get into the whole thing at all. The first parts were amazing, with how bleak it all looked and the callbacks to the first two games. But unfortunately, that's where the novelty wore off. I set my expectations too high I guess. I didn't like any of the combat in these games, only tolerated the faux MMO shit. But man, the combat in 3 was boring.
As for story, I forced myself to marathon the game. But in the end, I still couldn't do it. I was a fag who couldn't even finish the job. I dropped the game on the final chapter. Sometimes I wonder if I should've just gone through with it, considering Ive slogged through the story, but fuck that. I'm throwing in the towel, whatever the ending is can't possibly be worth the hassle this game was

Xenoblade 2 is the oddball for a lot more than just "fanservice". It's tonally inconsistent with the rest of the series, a lot more optimistic from the get-go and while Xenoblade never shies away from shounen-esque tropes and cliches, it had the had the sense to reign it in.
All the characters in the rest of the series have far more texture to them, even side characters.
Xenoblade doesn't have the best antagonists, and is far more devoted to its themes and "bigger picture" but I think any other antagonist is better than Jin, Malos and Amalthus. Jin especially is unforgivably shit and Malos is hardly a character. People only like him because he's sarcastic.

I've only just begun digging into Tantal. An interesting bit is that Tantal used to be at the bottom of Genbu. But as Genbu became colder and ice began to build up, everyone had to move the entire kingdom up to those spires. Still Tantal is beautiful. Night Tantal music is relaxing, I listen to it regularly.

As for Gormott I've been trying to put it's history on a timeline. Which sucks because I keep forgetting to write it down. Mor Ardain wasn't always as nice as it is under Emperor Niall. I think an NPC said it was 100 years ago that Mor Ardain crushed the White Chair, which was Gormott's Capitol. So Gormott fought a war of invasion for a full century before relatively recently, by that I mean 20 years ago, where they stopped fighting and surrendered. In return Mor Ardain put Gormott under the protection of the military and upgraded Torigoth's infrastructure. But while the younger generation is willing to accept the Ardainians, the older generation still hates them. So there's a bit of a split with the Gormotti about MA usurping their Titan even though they can't do anything about it

XC1 is better than X IMO. Each character has more clearly defined roles, tanks actually TANK and the main character doesn't just blow through battles by pressing the "win" button aka overdrive.
You can do far more set-up and maintenance with your party's gear whereas in X it takes a god awful amount of endgame grinding to get them anywhere near on the level of the MC.
The flow of combat is far more sensible, every party member contributes, and there's plenty of good synergy between party members.

X is messy. That's the best I can do to describe it.

It is a visual clusterfuck but it's simple to set them up and you can still take control over the flow of battle in 3. X is a mechanical nightmare of a lot of conflicting ideas. I like it, but it's not anywhere near as solidly designed as the main three xenoblade games.
X would be fixed if tanks actually pulled their weight and Soul Voices were removed or at least reworked, but the way resistances are handled in X makes that nigh impossible without reducing the amount of them and giving the player generous access to resistance augments.

i think the best way to play X is to just play the switch version and not do any of the new story missions at all and pretend they dont exist. Been playing these games since the UK release of the original on the Wii and 2 is the only one that remains worth playing. The rest of the titles are just empty wank that I and others likely fell for because of the presentation signalling something that wasn't really there. Or because they remain impressed by huge open fields of nothing 14 years later. I dunno.

So was them showing a scene from Xenoblade 3 in the rift in chapter 13 just fanservice, or does it mean Aionios counts as a full-fledged dimension as far as the Xeno multiverse and its inner workings are concerned, and everything that happened there also got recorded in the rift, same as with every "naturally occurring" dimensions?

I thought Aionios' status as basically a fever dream born from the collective unconscious of souls trapped in Origin, and effectively a computer simulation running on loop until enough people got over their fear of the future, disqualified it from being a proper "dimension"?
