As much as I'd like him to do that, if you think about, the game has been set up for maintenance mode since Shadowbringers. It is quite literally impossible to bring the game back from the position it is in right now without an immense amount work.

The removal of RPG mechanics, the addition of trusts, the simplification of jobs, streamlining of Job design... All of these point not towards players having a better easier time, but towards leaving the game in the hands of inexperienced devs that don't need to think too much when creating new content.
Think about it. What is the point of removing all of the RPG elements that Final Fantasy is known for and just producing more content updates? No gameplay upgrades, no new mechanics, nothing is new in this game. We're quite literally playing A realm reborn just, with worse jobs.

It is impossible to fix this game and with so many cool games that offer much better multiplayer experiences that are also less expensive than FFXIV. What is even the point? Like I can't even begin to think what WoW housing will do the FFXIV playerbase, I can't wait to see how Yoshida reacts.

To cut costs, Yoshida chose to remove RPG elements, and to focus on content design (which is impossible to expand because they do not have engineers and programmers that can work on XIV). So they HAVE to out content a gameplay issue.
It would be easier to work on a whole new MMORPG than to retroactively go back and add RPG elements to every singular encounter.
And funny enough this is something that Naoki Yoshida would have completely avoided if he just followed his own words.

The combat is getting super stale, almost every job has devolved into "push the glowy button. Whatever non-standard gameplay that is left is slowly getting deleted. Look at the last few updates to jobs. Ninja's lost their pre-pull Doton, Samurai lost their Kaiten, Dragoon became somehow even more flowchart, Blackmage lost ALL of its challenge and charm, Summoner lost their DoT and pet management (although the pet was janky as fuck, it could have been fixed instead of outright removed) Astro lost its whole identity. The list goes on and on, and god forbid I get into talking about how tanks are all the same job now.

The story is getting weaker. It was bound to happen, it gets hard when the last villian you fight is a literal universe ending entity, but for fuck sake the entire MSQ of dawntrail has been absolute shit. Ignoring the tranny VA's joke of a job done, they did everything the fanbase didn't want. I don't think any real fan would disagree that having all of 7.0 just be "haha i'm relaxing on vacation" would have been multitudes better.
Next big problem is the content. It's slower to release than it should be for what we're getting. There's zero mid-core content: you either get casual stuff thats way too easy, or hard stuff that unless you find 7 other people with some form of cognitive sense, you will struggle. there is ZERO incentive for people to help eachother because of gear lockout, and the excuse for that is "hurr people will gear up too fast!" fuck you, that's such a shitty excuse. Let me play the fucking game and not handicap my friends. Then we have the Chaotic raid, which had basically zero incentive to redo and help newbies clear, DESPITE THEM SAYING THEY WERE GOING TO MAKE A REASON FOR IT.

That's actually the result of finsihing a side-quest BTW. WuWa has what's called Exploration Quests which result in major, permanent changes to the world at the end. This one quest ends with you saving two dragons (after literally cutting a giant tower in half, leaving it permanently broken in the map) and they enchant this giant dragon's corpse to spawn glowing spectral wings (when it's nighttime). Beforehand that specific area of the map is pretty grey and lifeless. Much like a typical FFXIV zone.

honestly I enjoyed all of the criterion dungeons. they were a neat concept. I'd also like something akin to the coils and early alexander raids. I also enjoyed Eureka and Bozja, and have heard the new one they released was ass. I thought it would be neat from the description (FF5 style job system you build up) but I've only heard negatives about it.

I also liked what they did with Bozja's content, scaling it to however many people were actually inside. It was a nice refreshing taste having 5 friends go into the Castrum and Dalriada and being able to actually clear it.

This will never happen.
The core gameplay has been dumbed down beyond salvation. Tank aggro management mechanic is completely gone. All healers are either regen or shielders with 1 main dmg button. Most DPS jobs have been lobotomized beyond belief and are boring as fuck to play, especially at low level content. The 2-minute meta was a mistake and just made every encounter more boring and predictable. They actively went out of their way to lobotomize older content, then yoshitpiss proceeds to cry about how the game became too much of a "avoid the glowing aoe's" fest.
Content cycles getting less and less content while the mogstation will always get steady updates.
I could go on forever. They would have to fix all of this shit and more, which is absolutely not going to happen in 8.0.

Yeah, it looks nice. They need to give all zones as much of a touch up as they gave ARR in 7.1, though. They went through most zones in 7.2 but not as finely as in 7.1 for ARR zones. Also they genuinely need to redo all mountains/mountain textures that serve as a background. They look awful.
But for the most part, the game looks pretty good and will look even better when most NPCs and armor are updated.

Every DPS had some way to interact with aggro, be it Diversion to reduce its generation, or stuff like Lucid Dreaming to cut your current aggro in half.
People using those skills or not is what made every encounter different, as well as if a tank would decide to actually tank the boss with tank stance or not, or warrior's that had the option to go into tank stance whenever Unchained was up, or just tanks deciding to use their aggro combos at all or not, or all of those redmages dying at pull because they didn't use Diversion, the tank letting the sam take aggro and die, or killing the white mages that only spammed Medica II (which generated a fuckload of aggro back in the day).

The point is, every encounter felt different and unique with stuff like this, but now it's been completely stripped from the game. The only thing that basically happens now is the tank having his "aggro stance" on or not.
